2013 first hatch photos

Our last egg of the season (from March 20th) finally hatched today and was promptly named Omega, "Meg" for short. But to our surprise, when we removed Meg to go to the brooder, the egg laid outdoors during the snowstorm of March 17th and not collected until the 18th was also in the process of hatching. Unlike Meg who hatched on the third day after beginning to vocalize inside the egg, "Uncle Psi" never peeped until he/she broke through the shell! Because both of these birds were totally unexpected, they have not been claimed and will be available for sale.

Visited Pungo yesterday in Virginia Beach. He recognized me or my voice and came to me when I called his name. His new owner has not been able to have any physical contact with him, but he came to me and let me stroke his neck and posed for pictures! He seems to be making out pretty well with his new flock mates...

I'm not surprised at all that he remembered you!

My mailman got to pet Paco this morning.. his previous experience around other emus had left him a bit shy of them (he got pecked so hard that they drew blood).. he was amazed that Paco was perfectly sweet and never once tried to peck him.. even let him get an emu hug!..

Even Crash and Eddie behaved themselves (which was a miracle since those two are the evil brats of the property.. always looking for trouble to get into)...

I love the names Crash and Eddie, I have an Eddie and he's wild, today I watched him go round and round in circles so many times trying to get one of those big blue dragonflys that he actually fell down! LOL Maybe it's the name!

Crash has a habit of running off like a maniac and crashing into everything in sight.. Eddie isn't QUITE as bad.. he plans his mischief a bit better... but together they are tag team terrorists! They will start running at full speed.. circle around and slam into everything and each other.. then they get up and do it all over again..
Paco usually stands back and watches them.. I can only imagine what he thinks of the "kids".. They adore him though..

Rose and Dorian are in a different area.. they can see the knotheads.. but can't get to them.. I can only imagine the mayhem that would ensue if the two youngest were in with the other pair.. lol
