I will have strawberry and black and red raspberry in the spring and lots of mulberry tree starts. Not sure how they would do if i dug them now. And i have 5 or 6 kinds of mint if i can figure out hiw to divide them and get them started.

I'm not sure if now or waiting til spring will be better on the mulberry starts.. I'm interested in them if I can find something to put up for a swap.. I have seeds coming from Annie's Heirloom seeds sometime this week.. so I may have a few goodies in there that I can part with..
Otherwise I need to go through my seeds from this past summer to see what's available...
In the meantime I'll check and see what I can find out about the mulberries (I'll be eyeing the berries in the spring too!)

If you're in the south, now is the best time for perennials. The heat is so much more stressful on a plant that is trying to grow new roots than a little bit of cold is.

Well.. from what I have found out about Mulberry "cuttings" they can be taken at any time of the year.. however most of the black mulberries are grafted onto a white mulberry rootstock.. so any suckers that come up at the base of the tree may very well be white mulberry plants and not black... the best way to find out is to look for a grafting scar on the main plant (though if you got it as a cutting from someone else and know it's a black mulberry it's pretty much a moot point)..

Our trees were here when we got the house and are quite old and large. No graft scar either.

Well I have some Red Leafed Canna bulbs that I would love to trade for some Black Oil Sunflowers from someone. Just don't know if this cold streak we're having is a good time to ship or not.

cold weather is better for plants, you just don't want to ship plants when its going to be freezing.

Well we are getting temps in the high 20's and lows in the lower teens right now.

Probably not a good day to ship plants. I would wait until its like 35 or over.
