2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Ouch, you have my sympathy I went to the dentist yesterday, because

I'll get this right in a minute! I thought I had an abscessed tooth only thing is it moved around. Come to find out it was a gum abscess. All of my teeth were fine! I get to go see the periodontist Saturday!. It hurt like an abscess. Only thing is it took it better than a week to react to the antibiotics! Not to change the subject what humidity level do you have for the peachicks in the incubator ?

Hmmmm... Did someone say PEAFOWL EGGS???

I collected my first 3 early surprise eggs on 3/3/14, and I'm up to 41 eggs total collected so far, from just 3 Hens.
Busy girls.

And here are my first 4 2014 Babies

The biggest 3 are from my first small hatch on 4/9 and the smallest guy in the upper left corner was hatched by a grumpy broody Silkie almost a week later on 4/15. I took him away from her tho, because after the 3rd day she still would not get off him to let him eat/drink, lol... dang Newbie Broody!
(They are all way way WAY mad at me and insulted in this pic, I had just washed their poopy feet off and set them in a cardboard box for a quick photo op, and brooder cleaning).

Congrats on all the eggs and chicks!

And it looks like someone finely got the bigun, you will love that cabinet bator, i never open mine unless it is to candle the eggs at 2 weeks, i keep the reservoir filled from the side vent hole with a piece of PVC tubing and a funnel, i have the bucket reservoir but i never could get the flow going enough to keep it full so i improvised

I know i must have some girls laying but i have been dealing with an abscessed tooth sense last Thursday and it has been all i can do just to make rounds and feed with all the swelling and pain, i am on the backside now so the hunt will begin soon, i am letting the hens that want to set set if they are in a safe area.
Yah... I bought a Dickey cabinet with all the bells and whistles last April (got the clear door, auto humidity system, electronic temp control etc), and hatched over 100 Turkeys, 300+ Guineas, a buncha Silkies and Showgirls, plus 28 PeaBabies. I wasn't going to hatch ANYTHING in it this season because I seem to have a teeny tiny issue with getting out of control with all of my hatching (lol, understatement), but I wasn't impressed with incubating and hatching Pea eggs in my Hovabators

so I decided to drag the Dickey out of the closet and the GQF hatcher for the next 2 or 10 or 20 batches of Pea eggs I set, lol.

So sorry to read you have an abscessed tooth...

Been there done that. Not fun at ALL. Can't bend over, can't get your heart rate up or break a sweat etc otherwise your whole jaw and head just throbs/pounds like crazy, besides the constant dull pain that never goes away. Hope you are on antibiotics and knock it out fast!

Good luck to your Girls that are sitting on eggs, hope you can find those PeaBabies fast and are able to have a few imprint on you. I know how you love those wee peas!

Congrats on all the eggs and chicks!

Thanks Kathy, go show your Girls the pic of all the eggs in my 'Bator and maybe they will kick it into high gear for you

. You aren't that far from me, so our weather and daylight hours are pretty close... I was wondering why your Girls weren't cranking them out like mine are

So I was all freaked out yesterday 'cause my beloved coming 2 year old "Green Pea" was acting off... and because I am the way I am, lol, I brought her inside, weighed her (4.1kg) and gave her a thorough exam, which of course with me includes a cloacal exam. The cloacal exam revealed a soft-shelled egg, so I gave her some, calcium, D3 and E, then I decided to make an appointment with the vet...

Good news! Did another exam this morning and the egg now has a shell, so I cancelled the vet appointment.

Not exactly "cute" pictures, but here they are:

IMO that second picture is adorable. I ended up with 4 healthy Barnevelder chicks out of my ebay eggs. The last one wouldn't come out so I waited until this morning and then assisted, unfortunately it had a developmental defect and I had to cull. First time for that, so I'm still a bit off about it. But the other 4 are doing well, although it looks like 2 and maybe 3 are Roos.

At this rate it will take me 10 years to get a nice little egg laying flock together.
