2014 breeding season begins, post your results

My hen got four out of 6 of her eggs to hatch all on the same day and they were all different days. Eggs 1, 2, 4, and 6 were the ducklings that hatched and they were layed on different days but they all hatched within 4 hours from the first duckling. The other 2 eggs never hatched.
They do not start incubation till the hens sit tight day and night it has nothing to do with what day they were layed but i did noticed that if i set an egg the same day it is layed it is a day or two behind the rest and that is with guineas, peas and chickens

Mine go to lockdown tomorrow. Should I go ahead and move them now, I don't want to risk them getting hurt in the egg turner. And I haven't moved my humidity up to 70 percent yet.
It won't hurt them, go for it, check the air cell while ya got them out, if you see movement in the cell itself they are fixen start the hatching process.

Fluffed!

And yes, they're in my bathroom sink, lol.

these are great photos you should be taking more more often.

My hen right as she layed the first egg I didn't let her out of the kennel. I tried and she didn't want to leave and neither the drake. The temp only influences how fast the embryo grows. If you could get your incubator so hot without killing the embryo you could make the chick hatch before the expected date. Cool it down enough you can make it so it will go longer. A hen will push older eggs farther away from the center but keep them still developing just slower and keep new eggs in the center to get them to catch up. That's the way my hen Kida IR duck did that. She would only get off the nest for a few minutes to eat and drink and then right back to it when the first egg was layed.

How does the hen know which eggs are laid first or second or third? I will often swap a broody peahen's eggs for eggs laid by other hens, that way I get chicks from a variety of pairs to hatch under one broody peahen. How would she know which eggs were laid when if they are not even her eggs?

No movement in the air cell but they are close to it. I went ahead and raised the humidity and put them in lockdown, so hopefully I will have babies in a few days.:fl
