2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Still got one to go but this one was set the same day it was laid and as i said they seem to take longer, could be just a coincidence, i will be paying more attention from now on when i incubate.

Meeting the new babies.

Possible disaster! My broody that's on four eggs due 5-31 is ill, I mean can hardly walk ill. Just found her outside her nest box and her eggs were ice cold! Sigh... put the eggs under another broody, so we'll see.

Tubed the sick one and gave her some vitamins.

So sorry but ya know i have gone out and got guinea eggs that were cold after the hen left the nest with keets and put them in the bator or hatcher if they looked ok and they still hatched so don't give up hope.
I got a cold batch of guinea eggs this morning put them in with the pea egg .

Is your hen very old? i got a 6 year old broody, she don't lay any more that i know of but she is a great broody.

Just be glad your hen didn't take a turn for the worst. My hen has a bald spot drenched in blood. Because when Jadea got egg bound she got picked on by the rooster and now she went to a brooding attitude even though she has no eggs but my rooster picked so much off her head it started to bleed and then my hens made it worse so now I have her in a dog carrier separated from everybody. Colbolt won't stop calling now.

I've seen dark specs, but never stick shaped. Interesting, I wonder what it is? If it were a chicken egg I'd open it up to satisfy my curiosity, lol, but my pea eggs are "special".

Perhaps it is a worm, i have read where chicken hens have layed eggs with worms in them even saw someone post about a rubber band in the their egg never did figure that one out

I don't really think it's a worm, and I'm pretty sure it's not a rubber band(that's freaky!) Here is a picture of the UFO in question, it's the best I could get, it still floats around but more slowly now. It's the dark speck above the upside down G.

It is getting harder to see it, but when I candled this egg at 5 days the speck was clear as a bell.

The embryo is almost on the opposite side of the egg.

birdrain, IMO, you need to send those worthless chickens to freezer camp

Get them out of that Pea Pen! A few $3 chickens aren't worth losing a beautiful and much more valuable PeaHen over! With your steady/ongoing streak of bad Pea luck lately it seems like you would be doing everything in your power to make sure that your only laying PeaHen is safe/healthy and left alone to do her thing.
.
That's just my 2 cents (and you can take it for what it's worth), but I feel a couple "I told ya so" comments coming up in the near future.

Day nine non-viable eggs

2 year old hen named Green Pea from pen of 1 and 2 year old boys.

From mature pen, but very small egg.

2 year old hen named Black from pen of 1 and 2 year old boys.
