2014 New York Chickenstock

Well these ducklings are in a plastic bin and they way they're messing about I may just fill the thing with water and be done with it!! Fortunately I have TWO bins, but I won't be happy changing it out every day. Messy, messy, messy!

They are definitely big mess makers in the brooder, don't worry though. It'll get much easier once they are outside!

Yup. When I had ducklings in the house (back porch) they actually ruined the floor underneath the box they were in. Ray wasn't amused. So "not amused" he hasn't fixed the floor three years later. Boo hiss.

Right??? I was just looking up photos from last year and the year prior to see what the weather looked like outside and we had not 1 ounce of snow by May 1st Had my gardens and greenhouses set up ready to go!!! Hope to hell that April is hot like people are saying!!
Well with the exception of the HE double tooth picks part, I agree.

Last year? Last year I had PLANTS IN THE GROUND by May 5. Everyone said it was toooo soon. I had a bumper crop of tomatoes. It wasn't too soon....last year. This year I think I'll be planting my garden on the newly expanded deck and bringing the plants inside at night until JULY. Come on spring.

Saw on Facebook "Winter, I'm breaking up with you, you leave me cold. Summer is so much hotter"

Are you asking me what I do with the roos at hatch if not needed? Ummmm do you really want to know?? ;( I do and will hold onto a few for breeding purposes but the rest , if not sold go to baby chick heaven....Im sorry if this offends people but its my responsible reality of raising birds and NOT biting off more than Can chew...Im a breeder but not to make money...I don't buy birds at shows or sell birds at shows...I rarely if ever sell eggs anymore because Im just to busy but because tabs and travis are AWESOME Im thrilled to share with folks at their chickenstock. I can offer them up to make peoples lives much easier like they have done for me...and if I can make back what it cost to get these buggers...Im all over that!!! LoL

That is your choice ..I would think that with this rare / expensive of a breed there would be a market even for the Roos .
Do I understand this Right ? If a C Legbar Roo Fertilizes a Non C Legbar hen will the chicks still be auto sex or do the both have to be C Legbar?

Gramma...I do hold onto each and everyone of the roos, for a little bit...Even though I have the space to provide nice homes for all of them, I choose not to. Ill give an example...because they are autosexers, if I hatched out 17 roos and 6 hens...I hold onto all the roos and put out feelers for any lookers for them...if within a week I hear nothing...most likely 12 with be culled. these roosters, while rare, are still roosters. They can be used to create Olive eggers because of the blue egg gene they carry...which has been their saving grace for the most part...I'm always holding onto spares and growing out some. They have to be mated with another bird that is autosexable, like with the barred gene, to get the autosexing to work. They can't just be mated to any hen...

Luckily, no one blinks when I tell them Ill sell them some BUT they have to take a roo or three!! Lol
