No problem. I like a person with a sense of humor. Can DW bring her buns too?

Course I think I have more "rolls" than buns.

x2, although I'd probably end up hiding behind those who also watch, and throwing up my lunch! Lol
I thought that I might do that too, but I have dissected a horse, so I'm sure that I'll be able to stomach a chicken. Not sure about the killing part. I'll just have to suck it up and watch so that I can do it some day.

Oh man, if you can deal with that, I imagine you can deal with a lot more than I can! LOL I couldn't even get thru dissecting a frog in highschool without gagging into a trash bin because I thought I would throw up just from the smell alone!

I think the key might be to mentally focus on something else while your doing it. Not thinking of it as a chicken and all that.

When I first had to put down a sick hen, I got up in the middle of the night, in the dark, took her out not thinking about what I had to do and did it. .......................then I shed a few tears. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I've done a few since and it's gotten easier, but I still play the mental game.

Chicks succumb fast so I put them in a brown paper bag and put them in the freezer. Day olds or a couple. Not older than that. They're very fragile which is why some folks who pester and play with them have a problem.

Good idea...let's do this BEFORE lunch. For the reason stated above and also so the sacrifices don't have to hang around long in the HOT HOT sun. (please, please let it be warm)

I have done it both ways and it really smells less (and less chance of ruture) if you don't feed the bird you are butchering for 12- 24 hours before you do it. For ease of plucking you will need a large pot of boiling water. (that's where Tab and Trav come in. Can we boil water in their house?) I can bring my canner pot....that's what I use when we butcher. (I'll put the potato chips inside it for ease of transport. LOL)

I"ve been contemplating buying one of those burner things from Gander Mountain for outdoor use. They sometimes go on sale for $100. I'm thinking of building a Lean to to put it in. Just something rustic perhaps made from pallets.

I need to talk to Travis about the butchering idea. What comes to mind for me is that we don't have a regular trash pick up here or have a tractor to bury the excess body parts from the process. We bring our birds that have died out to the back field, but a bird here or there doesn't smell as much to draw in predators.
