$3 per ducklings if you want young ones only a few days old. The ones due to hatch at Easter will be a month old by Chickenstock, so say $6. If you want the older ones let me know because I wasn't planning on keeping any.
Wow ! Any Pics ? Are these good as 1st ducks ? my son would probably like baby ducks
I guess they would make a good 1st duck, these are only my second attempt at ducks. My first ones were pekins and mallards I bought at TS and they ended as dinner as soon as they were big enough. These guys are super easy, they free range and go where they like. I've only loss two, since last summer - one to a fox and another I think was washed away down stream during some flooding. If I handled them they would probably be pretty tame, but as I let them run wild, they are pretty standoffish - which is why this is really my only picture. Probably doesn't help that I occasionally pluck off extra males to have for dinner, it's made them a little wary of me. As you can see the cold doesn't bother them at all.
I don't know about them as pets, but they are great for eggs. They stopped laying during the winter, but they started back up last month and I've been getting 3-4 eggs a day and I only have 4 females.
How much for the runner ducks?
$10 a piece.
Gramma, here are the parents. They are just your average ducks.I mostly raise muscovies and they have really sharp claws, so they would not be appropriate for a child. The pekins just have regular toenails and are much safer to handle, as are all breeds other than muscovy. I suppose they would be a good beginer duck as they are pretty uncomplicated and the most common breed.![]()
The pekins are confined separately and are pure pekin. (That's a goose on the left in the first picture.)
