2014 New York Chickenstock

Rancher I would get them on Flock Raiser is ya can. Are they outside yet? Mine have been living outside for a couple of weeks now. They decide at night where they're going to sleep whether it be with the adult ducks or the chickens. As for water, just give them a big bucket full so they can dunk their whole head in.

I got one of those bucket chicken water things from CountryMax that I can bring for the auction. It looks like a galvanized pail, set it on its side and water gravity feeds.
I know most of you are too far, but the Broome County Farm Bureau is holding the annual farm consignment auction Friday afternoon and Saturday in Whitney Point. My Dad called to say that a bunch of new looking horse and chicken stuff, like a feed or tack store closed out was out there. I'll be doing a walk through Thursday night, probably post some pics if interested. Auction starts at 3 on Friday, small stuff and livestock. Usually a bunch of caged and boxed up chickens, some chicks, ducks, geese, rabbits, ect. Manasee Auctioneers.

Chickin you are bringing Khaki Campbell ducklings? Are they  pure bred? if so I would like a few.

I would have set some last week but didn't know anyone was interested in them. They are pure and I will take reservations for eggs if anyone is interested. I'll probably bring a weeks worth? Maybe a day or two more... I also have Indian runner & runner/kc mix eggs available. All duck eggs are $1 ea. I have pure welsummers in a breeding pen: eggs are $1 ea and I'll probably bring all my other mixed breeds eggs if anyone is interested. Those are $5/doz includes ee, oe, & fbcm mixed. I lose track but I have at least 10 breeds in my main group :) love variety!

Any advice on feeders or waterers for my ducks?

Pictures would be helpful.

I've been feeding them chicks starter made into mush. How long do they need chick grower?

How often to change their water?

What about winter watering?

I have been raising ducks for 3 years now and found that the rubber pans like they feed horses with work well. It holds about 2 gallons. They are deep enough to submerge their whole head (3 or 4 inches) and they like to climb in and soak :) They are easy to rinse out with a hose in the summer and the ice pops right out in the winter. I leave the water tubs outside year round so they do not get their coop so wet. They do just fine overnight without water when they are locked up for the night. They are sleeping anyway.

I change the water morning and afternoon. If it is blazing hot I do it at lunchtime as well. I fed mine gamebird starter until they started wasting too much, then switched them to grower pellets, then to layer when they started laying. I put the feed in a rubber tub as well, just smaller sized, about like a large dog dish. Actually, the chickens and ducks share all the food and water dishes. I also have a hanging metal feeder for layer mash and they seem to like having the choice between mash and pellets. They have a double supplement feeder on the wall with grit and oyster shell just in case they feel the need and free range every day.

I have a couple of long handled scrub brushes that are used to give them a good cleaning when they start to look too gross. The ducks like to dunk their food and clean their bills and sometimes there is quite a bit of sediment that sticks on the bottom.

I am going to tentatively say that by the picnic I will also be able to sell welsh harlequin hatching eggs. They would be $25 a dozen.

Guineas finally started laying!

Too late for babies for the stock, but I will have eggs. PM if interested. I have lavenders, chocolates, royal purples, and the pearls all running together. We are fixing up the coop this week so I'm planning to start closing them in so I can actually find the eggs. I'm sure they are laying more than 3 eggs a day (that's all I gathered today) considering I have over 20 of them.

Also I'm going to be bringing cookies. I may still have Italian sausage for grilling if our pork doesn't start selling so I might be able to bring some of that as well.
