2015 breeding season

Will she keep laying this season if she finally passes this egg?

No way to know. I've had some that had difficulty and then stopped after they finally passed it, some never laid again that season, others started laying after several weeks, but laid clears, still others were fine and laid fertile eggs again.

Thank you. Is it possible she has an egg with a shell like the others just to big for her to pass. I have calcium for them and that's why I'm not understanding how she could have egg problems unless there can be egg problems for having too much calcium.

casportpony, FBC, Q8, and myself are all having egg binding problems, and I also have dishes of oyster shell in every pen, as I would bet the others do as well. Providing the extra calcium doesn't guarantee problem free laying. There are other factors that can influence how well the hen is able to metabolize and use that calcium. We don't know the answer to why we are seeing so much of this.

Thank you for the advice. I just don't want to loose a hen. I'm thinking about giving her some electrolytes if it starts looking bad.

In the past I had egg binding problems too. Since I feed during whole winter two times in the week “AVISANOL” (I put it into small sliced vegetables) I never had this problem anymore.

I could see that the hens starting to eating minerals and mussel shells just before they start laying. Maybe the “AVISANOL” improves the mineralisation long time before laying which helps then during breeding season. I don’t know if you are able to get in in US, if not maybe some of you have to make a common ordering here in Germany.

Had a 'sticky' chick hatch the other day that when I found it in the hatcher it had been stuck on its back to the floor for a few hours. When I would upright the chick it would push itself over onto its back again, it just could not stay right side up and its toes were curled tight. So I made shoes for it and put it in the 'burrito'.

It didn't look very happy about that, but the next day it looked to be much improved.

Later that day I took off the snowshoes and all the toes but one were pretty normal looking.

It is running about with its clutch mates now and the only difference I can see is it is the runt of the litter, just a little smaller than the rest.
It is out of an IBBS split Cameo cock over a Cameo hen, it looks Cameo to me.

Good Job!
