Hello Bill and
welcome-byc.gif
, the Peafowl Department!

There seem to be different opinions about how old peas have to be to breed, and some more experienced peapeople are likely to give you information about this. In any case, it looks like this year's breeding season has drawn to a close (not sure, is anyone still getting eggs?).

I am still getting a few. More than a few days ago, it seems like the hens took a break and are starting back up. Maybe...

Kskingbee,
I saw Petey my dominant male with his head through the latticework door to the coop twining his head with one of the cameos last night. They really seemed smitten with each other! :)

I didn't get any eggs the last two nights but up til then production has been normal.

I can't say enough how much I love your honey.

Why you little match maker! Brad Legg said that he always pairs up his birds for the coming season in late fall/early winter. I also saw that he will have a gate between two pens and will run the cock through it to take turns servicing each. I didn't count how many hens in each pen, maybe four or five each. I plan to keep my special breeders in all winter and not free range them this winter, I don't want to risk losing them, there will be plenty of rangers the way it is.

My IBBS/Cameo and Purple BS gave up five eggs last night so it looks like a slight rise in production, I will be setting another three broodie hens tonight. The eggs I set the day or two before you came here are pipped as of last night and should zip sometime today.

Glad you are enjoying the honey, we should be extracting sometime in July our spring honey, my favorite, it promises to be a good year.
