2015 breeding season

I use a regular light bulb I forgot what wattage I normally use. I always forget that everyone uses the heat bulbs.

Hey if it works that's great! I am always stressing over my heat bulb starting a fire. I have been toying with the idea of getting the eco-glow things, but I read a lot of reviews saying they can't be raised enough and chicks outgrow them too fast, and those are chicken chicks, shorter than peachicks. So is your egg in lockdown now? Any pip? My first 2 are on day9 and have lots of movement visible, I added 4 more Mon. night, lots of the hens look like they want to lay but so far only 4 have and one layed a very thin shelled egg. Just can't figure that out, she has had a dish of oyster shell available, lots of sunshine, vitamins in the water once a week, I'm out of ideas there.

Not everybody, we use both depending on the size of the brooder and number of chicks. The weather outside, if the brooder is in the garage or out in the brooder house all makes a difference. We have used as small as 40watt all he way up to 250 watt IR bulbs.

I suspect that it is the hen and not something you are or are not doing.

I pulled nine pea eggs out from under two broody chickens last night and put them in the hatcher. All nine are internally pipped! Candled out total of three bad eggs. Think I will put another seven eggs under each today. DW said she has five more broody hens for me. yay. Oh, all nine are from my IBBS over Cameo pen.

I need to check on the egg again but the last time I looked at it, it wasn't even moving back and forth and no pips from what I can see. Today is day 24 so hopefully if it doesn't do anything today it will do something tomorrow. I hope the temp drop didn't hurt it. I thought it wouldn't but maybe I was wrong. It took a while for the incubator to go from 95 back up to 100.

Did you ever hear my story about pulling the wrong egg from the bator? I did it 2 years ago with a Purple, I pulled the good egg and left the clear one in, that egg sat next to the bator for 12 hours in a 75 degree house, until I discovered my error. I was just sick, but I candled and saw a little movement so I put it back in and removed the clear one. That chick hatched just fine... but 12 hours later than her sister, and those were shipped eggs. I doubt your 95 degree dip did anything at all. Mine never hatch until day 27, occasionally day 28.

Last year I brooded most of my peas with the Eco-Glow 50.

For how long? How old were they when they no longer fit under it?

They spent several weeks under them and by the time they were too big, they didn't need it. The 50 will stand about 10" high.

How many comfortably fit under one of the 50's? I generally keep mine under the heat lamp until they are 8 weeks.

Once they get bigger, I think only four will fit under it. I'll keep better notes this year. :D
