Walked in the barn a little while ago to check on a duck dew to hatch a batch and i heard this peeping sound behind me turned around and there was a little pea chick silly broody hen found an egg under the bull dozer and sat it till it hatched did not even know it was there.
So here is my first baby of this season, glad i have some fixing to hatch cause this baby is alread crying for me LOL.

I'm jealous. I'm still waiting for eggs. I saw Colbolt breed I think it was Saturday and yesterday so she should be laying soon I would hope. Last year it was May 12 so I guess I'm getting close.

q8peafowl,,most all my birds are b/s as well. That's why I made my own hatcher with separate compartments to keep chicks separated until I can get them identified and marked using 4" long colored zip ties which I put on their legs. Some colors only gets a tie on one leg, other colors gets a zip tie on each leg. You have to keep an eye on them as the chick grows but after about a month I wingband them and cut the ties off.

how well do the wing bands work and how long can you keep them on i have no experience with them....just spirals, zipties, and numbered leg bands.....which have to be change pretty quickly ....still no eggs...hatch almost 50 jumbo quail and bunch of ornamental pheasants, and bunch of chickens but no peafowl...bummer...wonder if they are hiding them on me....hmmmmm...looks like easter came back around and i have to search for eggs...lol
