The person that ships the eggs has to put the hold on the form when they ship. Writing it on the box does nothing!

It only works to put that on the form if the receiving PO is a designated holding facility. Otherwise, you write it on the box and hope they go ahead and read it and call.....Some are snotty about it and purposely refuse to call even if asked just because they don't have to if they are not a designated facility. I have to say, that more often than not, it does work to ask them to hold it.

I just looked one chick alive and kicking a lot of maybes. Eggs with veins but no definition of a chick, just darkness. Thoughts?

Yeah! Veins are good. Darkness with veins is good. Don't give up!!

I feel for you, my dogs & I were dressed as the Village People last year, there's enough of them

. I'm sure everyone here has more "they think I'm crazy" people than not in their family. I know I'm the crazy animal person in mine!

So....Do you, or do you not, have a photo of you and your dogs dressed up as the Village People ?????

Okay, I know this is one of those, "Pics or it didn't happen" type things....but...
I reeeaaaally wish I had it, but it was one of those,"I'll send it to you soon! What's your email?" things & then I didn't get it sent to me. There was a guy with a nice Nikon there who was taking all the pictures & I thought I'd get it but didn't.
I still have all the costume stuff, I just need to be able to take my dogs to another dog friendly party type thing & maybe we will do it up again. That & I now have one of these smarter-than-me phones so I can take my own pics!

Got a new turner, DH got his dremel out and made the perfect spot for the plug to go through. The top lays flat beautifully when closed. This turner works just like they are supposed to. He can usually fix anything and everything, but the plastic that carries the eggs is sooo flemsy, not strong enough for the eggs to work right. The right side was trying to work, the left side just quit. Candled while I had the eggs out. Threw out 3 with blood rings, one is questionable, will look at it tonight when I hand turn the few silkie mix eggs. So, what's the point of advertising, 48 egg incubator. Guess it is if you want to hand turn, or get anther turner. Sure keeps the temp and humidity though.

Sure sounds like a lot is going on around here. Some really good, some not so good. That's how it rolls. Now, if we can just hear from our Sally.

That's a great photo of spider veins. :) Mine that are in the new bator, with the new turner, have some little eyeballs floating around. Can't wait to see what these will look like. EE's are fun, and, they keep changing as they grow.

All 3 of my orders were delivered. I wonder if that little extra road time really did make a difference or not.

Maybe. In transit it seems like there wouldn't be too many bumps as they are probably on paved roads, but to deliver to the house it seems like an extra strain on the eggs.

Assuming the air cells are big enough or nearly so, I use the time when some begin to draw down as the signal to remove from the turner. Anytime after day 14 is generally okay, though, so if in doubt take them out.

Day 19/20 the egg will be nearly all obscured.
Thank you. They are pretty obscure as of last night. I'm watching for a pip on any of them and will crank up the humidity when I see the first one. I'm keeping the smaller eggs furthest away from the heat source........is it bad to put silkie eggs in with the regular ones? 5 of them went into scrambled eggs and I could have cried LOL was saving them for the bator. now theres only two with them....

. I'm really sorry to hear you lost your grandmother.
Keep your fingers crossed! Eggs can be pretty resilient.
Wow! You're really on top of this!
Thank you Blarney. I'm the type of person who goes into overdrive when things like this happen..........a sign of getting old.........it used to work well for me till i noticed no dates on my eggs LOL

Sardi, thanks for posting about the salt test. I calibrated my thermometers but had no idea I could calibrate a hygrometer......

put them in the salt last night and am going to see if my adjusting to the last hatch by brail is the same :)
