Happy Birthday!!!
welcome little one!! come on chickies!!

CUTE Photos!!!!

My dateless eggs had a chirp yesterday. Last night a pip, this morning 6 pips

.............I took photos of the EEs, here's why:

A 12 year old girl talked her dad into buying her some chicks. She's going thru divorce junk parent exchange every week, he just lost his job of 25 years :( She has two new little sisters 1 year old and newborn from mom, I'm sure she's thrilled *sarcastic* ......just this beautiful kid that wants to be a vet and asked more questions for her age than EVER!!! I saved the eggs for her to gather and she just lit up!

She picked out her two, a WS and I THINK an EE. Will pick them up next week after returning to dads. My thoughts went to: record the EEs that are hatching now and see if she would rather have them? And she gets to see them from hatch to baby! I need to learn how to take short clips of the progress and will email them to her dad for approval before asking her if she would rather have the newbies:) Also need to be sure it's not a roo in there as cities are not allowed roos. Now to just get past any issues ......

I saw someone else has silkies on here? For some reason my silkie's eggs are a challenge. i have one still viable and she stopped laying. I'm going to create her a quiet nest only she can get into.......seeing some aggression from the other hens that was not there before? Still waiting on the other silkie to lay. It took about 7 months for Peeky to lay and still no Silkie babies......we'll see if her egg pips, the other egg didn't look quite right.....no blood rings, it was alive but the egg was not "full" as the others were.

Off to pick hubs brain on recording this hatch

Thats a great idea to let her see them progress and get to see her chicks hatch! perhaps she can Skype the hatch? or something???? I dont know anything about that though or if you have internet capability to do that? ... anyone??? silkies are hard to sex anyways. not sure on the EE's your so nice sonshine!!!!

Good news my sweet girl hasnt had any more seizures and is getting well to her normal self! and I am working on it as well! Things are backed up here at home but trying to catch up slowly!

Casey how is the hatching coming????

Question: When is everyone going to do their pumpkin carving? I think we will do ours this weekend. I need to get some ideas for the kids.

Dont forget to ENTER THE CONTESTS YOU GUYS!!! I know most of the stuff is close to Halloween when we go to parties and trick or treating and stuff, but dont forget those images to enter too!

24 eggs in the 'bator, let's hope for some beginner's luck here. temp held a steady 100 overnight and humidity was at 55% though I think I will try to keep it at about 45 from now on.

quick tip.... humidity is never a set number.... its only used as a tool to get the correct weight loss in your eggs. what breed eggs did you put in? are they local eggs or shipped eggs? what size are your air cells now?
and I think I did read that you have already calibrated you thermometer and you are extremely on top of this hatching stuff!

but humidity can do you in if you dont use it to get to the correct weight loss only. See humidity section in the article above that I wrote to help others.

Right now there are no visible or only dime sized air cells that I can see. The eggs are 5 days old max. They are my own backyard mix eggs, should produce olive eggers. The hen moms are cuckoo maran, welsummer, gold sexlink, arucana, and maybe a wyandotte egg or two. I only want it that high to start since I thought it would be easier to drop humidity if they aren't losing enough than to raise it if they lose too much.

I would lower it esp with those breeds, what was it running without water? what is the room humidity?

I feel dumb now, I didn't run it dry... should I open it up and try to soak up some water or just not fill it as high again? I also didn't get the humidity of the room, the temp is a steady 70. The outside humidity is supposed to be in the low 50s to 70s for the next 10 days. But I don't know how that changes the house humidity...it doesn't feel humid in my room, or dry....

dont feel dumb! you just can skip making the same mistake most of us made, because you found us sooner than we found us!

if that just made any sense at all! I would soak it ALLup. If you calibrated and you have a fan I would set your temp to 100. to 100.5 in the bator. do you have a turner in it? I would make use of tiny plastic cups to add and remove water as needed NOT the bottom wells in the bator UNTIL lockdown. its easier to add and remove water. if you are using a turner you can use those tiny rubbermaid containers and set them in a egg slot. also keep eggs away from the motor near the turner motor, those do get warmer than the rest of the bator. rotate eggs in the bator every couple of days as well. just in case you have warm and cooler spots even though you have a fan.
