Don't tell me that!

Now I'll be looking for an even brighter light and I'll end up hatching chicks with weld flash.

You beat me to it! I was going to comment on making the chick blind at birth... I have a 500 lumen flashlight that doubles as a weapon, no, I am not going to use it on eggs. Just pointing it anywhere close to you will take a couple of minutes for your eyes to readjust.

IB male over IB, Pied and IB BS. She couldn't remember the color if the BS but she looks very similar to mine.

I really want pied which I know I won't get from that pairing but I just figured since I was setting eggs and they weren't coming too far I'd try them.
We just got in from the Wolf's Creek Swap in Ligonier, Indiana that was held this morning, and there were a BUNCH of pied peafowl there. There's another swap meet there in June- if it's nearbyish, you should look it up and maybe check it out!

And best of luck with the rest of the eggs... too bad about the air cells, hopefully it won't cause much of a problem after they've settled

Thanks. I've heard of the swap from other IN members. I guess I need to go look at a map and see how far that is for me. I live not quite an hour south of Indianapolis.

I candled again tonight and of the 4 I set all look clear still. The shipped eggs I only candled 1 of the 7 and I can certainly see development. Air cell on that 1 is good and intact now too!

I wonder why ours are clear. ?? Thank goodness I went for the auction eggs or I'd be highly disappointed right about now! Well I'm still disappointed but at least I have some hope of babes in our near future. Now to figure out what's the deal with mine.

It's about 3 hours away from you (it's about 3 hours away from me, too). We usually grab a hotel in Shipshewana, and do some shopping and hanging out in town the day before. The Blue Gate restaurant there is fantastic. And Shipshewana is ~25 minutes from the swap grounds so it's easy driving in the morning.

How old are your males/females, how old are the eggs you set, how long have your males been in with your females, what are the general outdoor temps in your area, and how did you store your eggs prior to incubation? Any of those might've had an effect on the eggs from your own birds. Young males often don't breed as well, eggs over 10 days start losing viability etc.

Took a peek at them again and the one I thought had a blood ring looks okay. Very excited about several of these because they are from my split to white pair.

My girls are 2 and 3 yrs and my male is 3 yrs. I've only seen him mate 1 of the girls and I don't know which one layed the eggs. They free range, none are pinned. The first egg was layed on a Sunday the last by that following Thursday and set the next day Friday. Stored in the basement pointy end down rotated 3 x's a day (egg carton tilted side to side). 1 more egg layed Friday night and set Monday night. This is my IB hens first eggs. The IB BS hen I bought this year and was told she's 3 and had never layed before. They said she was pinned, after losing the male she was pinned with their chickens. She is now free ranging here but again I haven't seen my male mate her but also never saw who layed. My IB hen was the 1 with the most obvious signs of laying, although the BS I've questioned as well!!!??

Temps have varied a bit here for weeks. 57-75 high temps, lowest low was 39 one night. 80s yesterday thru this coming week.

It isn't looking good for the eggs I am incubating. I started with 7 eggs and the first time I candled I had to throw out 2. After last night's candeling it appears that all but one egg is alive!

The other eggs are too clear looking for this far into incubation. Something must have happened because they all had little chicks inside. There was another that was somewhat dark, but I doubt that one is good as well. The good egg is egg 4-9 which I suspect might be from my peahen Ice. The egg was found under a roost. Last night when I candled it the peachick was moving and I think it looked to be positioned correctly as well. Wednesday is the day I go into lockdown so hopefully all will go well.

My Dad isn't too thrilled that I will have another lone peachick. My adult peacock Peep was the only peachick that hatched from a clutch of 2 eggs and I had to spend a lot of time with Peep because he didn't have another peachick to interact with.

So we will see how this all goes.
