2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

Are they all getting along because breeding season is coming up!
Are you cross breeding them next year? Boy do I love crossbreeds :) you never know what your gonna get!

So far no problems yet!
And I think I'm just gonna let them pick their own mates and 5-10 Canada geese show up every spring so who knows! Maybe they'll match up with one of them!

People say to avoid crossbreeding but I disagree because it's fun and let's look at it this way, people crossbreed to make new pure breeds.
The Canada geese might cross breed and the babies might stay if they are too heavy or can't fly if you're lucky! but will be sterile

Though you can cross breed with greylag geese?
In fact most of the domesticated goose breeds come from the wild greylag

It's all so interesting. I was just on the duck thread looking at a Mix of Pekin mama and Muscovy dad [offspring] what pretty ducks they make.

It would be awesome if someone from BYC "created" a new breed from cross breeds.

Muscovy crosses are always sterile but people cross them with other ducks for meat.
Did you ever taste Muscovy.

We've white, brown and Buff African and only have white and brown chinese ;)
I crossed a buff African with a white Chinese and got goslings that looked just like buff Chinese but only females were buff and people loved them so they were sold but I kept one and sold her last spring.
Basically if someone has the time to further breed the cross I did I'd say you wouldn't be far off from developing buff Chinese geese!
I'll try and find a picture of her

I zoomed in as much as possible in both pictures but it's hard to see with the sun shining but she looks like any Chinese female but buff ;)
