2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

Mire, just spritz the egg with water after 10 days. In nature, geese stay locked down on nest for the 1st couple of weeks, but then will take daily breaks that last longer as they get closer to hatching time. During their break, they will take a quick bath and return to nest while wet, then preen themselves standing over eggs, causing water to drip onto eggs before laying back down on eggs.

Paulla, hey friend. Good to see you again!

Thank you, Miss Lydia

I did find that site after I posted here and it has lots of useful information for the newbie and maybe even the not-so-newbie.

Thank you for explaining about why spritzing the egg is needed! Makes a lot of sense now.

I set 2 eggs on Monday and candled tonight on day 5 and I have 2 little spots and blood veins. Im so excited as this is my first time hatching goose eggs

Here are my white Africans, enjoying the last few days of freedom before lockdown next week. I really feel bad about penning these guys (unlike my dewlaps who do not seem to care). If I didn't want to hatch a few of their babies I wouldn't bother. But if I don't get a lot of interest for their eggs, then it will be a very temporary situation for them.
Can't wait to see their goslings!

My geese are still mating though the African females aren't yet.
The weather here is absolutely disgusting we have constant rain and wind and it's 3 degrees here which is really cold for Ireland

because I know people have like -20 here so I should really not complain :D
But this winter was very wet so I can't wait till it gets drier and warmer!

Hey Paulla, things are great here. After losing Spirit and one of my buff girls last year, I'm really looking forward to spring and new babies!

Serv, I can't wait either! I bet they will be adorable!

Most all of my eggs are a bust.. I just have one developing at day 10. Guess I'll have to try to get some more eggs next week. The duck eggs I put in with them weren't fertile either, so if it hatches, it will be a lonely gosling for a bit ( or probably a very spoiled one) until I can hatch it a friend.

a baby proof 6 in stuffed animal works wonders for lone hatches :)
