2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

Haha, well how are your geese?
Is everything going good over there? Are you hatching this year ;)

I don't have anything measuring my humidity. I just fill my trays of water and that's it.
But your humidity does sound about correct.
Do you turn them over 3 times a day? I mist mine every 2 days until day 28.
You are doing good by the sounds of it ;)

So far everything is pretty good. I'm hoping to hatch some this year. Last year at this time I didn't have a gander. Got my tufted Chinese gander back last fall by pure luck, along with a new white Chinese gander. I have 5 geese, slowly building back. I've been getting eggs since October. I'm watching a nest now that has 4 eggs so far, Ethel & Stormy are sharing. Once one of them goes broody I will close the door and force the other(s) to move to a new nest. I might not incubate goose eggs unless they come from somewhere else. If the eggs in the nest hatch, they will be Tufted Chinese, or 3/4 tufted 1/4 Chinese , or 3/4 Chinese 1/4 Tufted lol either way it's still my original bloodline and crosses that I love.

Stormy is still there! what happened to the rest of your flock? did you sell them or? You did hatch a lot ;)
Good to hear you got your gander back ;)
Myself I've about 21 geese left bought two new Africans a few weeks ago for new bloodline and still have to sell 9 geese because I'm starting an African breeding program :D
Geese all started laying at the same time and I'm finding sneaky nests around.
October. That's very early isn't it? Good to have old friends back! It will hopefully be a fun and successful hatch a long.

So I cracked open my African goose egg before she was in the breeding pen when she was mating with my 10 month old African gander and one she laid yesterday in the breeding pen when she was mating with my two year old Buff African gander Sloppy Joe.
Here are the results
400

This one is definitely infertile

400

I'm guessing also infertile but I do see some sort of bullseye? And it's more dark orange then the others? But it looks infertile.

400

This one is from my greylag crosses which are always fertile and is definitely fertile ;)
I think the African egg I thought was fertile is fertile!

Yes Stormy is still here, she will be buried here lol she will be 3 in April. A year ago in January, I had 22, sold half, which was the Tufted Chinese gander and all of my white Chinese. That left me with the Browns, Toulouse, Romans and my 3 crosses. My blue Tufted Chinese was hit by car just after I sold the others. February came and before any eggs were laid there was a dog attack I lost all but Stormy, her younger full sister and their Mom Ethel. I got very few eggs probably because of trauma & no ganders. Then in September I found 2 ganders needing a home didn't expect to get one of mine back lol guess my girls were desperate because by the end of October they were laying and haven't quit lol
Sounds like you have a good plan for breeding this year. Hopefully everyone has a successful year. Are you only going to have Africans? I never thought you would get rid of your other breeds.

I really liked your blue tufted gander :( it's a shame things like that happen. It's funny that you got your own gander back
Maybe this year you'll get more blue babies! You're white Chinese and your toulouse will create blue males just a hint ;)
Yes I simply didn't have the time for all my geese because of travelling and eventually college so I had no choice. I am starting with Africans because they're rare and I simply am in love with them. I will only have Africans after this spring and one embden female because she's absolutely massive and you don't get females as big as her so I decided to keep her :)
