2 fuzz butts in one day! So happy that we got more than one. Still waiting to see what the other eggs will do. One looks close to internal pip based on size of air cell from what I've read. This is fun. Kind of glad we gathered the eggs and incubated ourselves.

Hi everyone- Spring laying has started here at my farm. We found a nest with an egg in it yesterday! I have a trio consisting of 2 Toulouse (gander & goose) and one tufted roman (goose). Last year they hatched out one egg but it died in a terrible thunder/rain storm that same night. I am hoping they have better luck this year. I do have a question though. I was going to collect the first few eggs since our nighttime temps are still way below freezing and the eggs crack. How many should I leave in her nest at a time while I take out the bad ones? Should I let her get up to 3 or so and take one at a time?

I am excited to follow along here and see everyone's goslings!!

Edited to add a question: What is the target amount of eggs to leave in the end for her to sit on?

I'm new to goose hatching. I adopted a pair of pilgrims (Emma and Knightly) who are exceptionally nice (they love to hang out with my chickens and the gander keeps them from picking on each other). The goose started laying an egg every other day since mid November but I didn't think that the gander was doing his job and I didn't want babies in our very cold winters so I kept taking the eggs and we ate a lot of goose eggs. My goose is currently sitting on 4 eggs but I think only 2 are developing. Should be hatching in a little under 2 weeks while we're out of town (terrible timing). I'm really hoping that the 2 will make it. I really want to expand my flock. I've got 5 more coming from a hatchery in April but I'd love to have some homegrown ones.

Beautiful geese. Emma and Knightly should be able to care for the babies while you're gone. Where is the nest? Is it in a secure shelter away from predators? If not you may need to get someone to come over and watch them

Just curious as to what breed yours is? Do you have anymore that you're waiting on to hatch?

The nest is in their coop which is pretty secure. I'm planning on leaving some unmedicated starter with the girl who is checking in on our animals so that once they hatch, she can give them some.

Oh I don't know... depends on if you want strictly Africans or a set of mystery eggs.
