Congrats! My first hatched today too and my second is on it's way!
Beautiful geese. Emma and Knightly should be able to care for the babies while you're gone. Where is the nest? Is it in a secure shelter away from predators? If not you may need to get someone to come over and watch themI'm new to goose hatching. I adopted a pair of pilgrims (Emma and Knightly) who are exceptionally nice (they love to hang out with my chickens and the gander keeps them from picking on each other). The goose started laying an egg every other day since mid November but I didn't think that the gander was doing his job and I didn't want babies in our very cold winters so I kept taking the eggs and we ate a lot of goose eggs. My goose is currently sitting on 4 eggs but I think only 2 are developing. Should be hatching in a little under 2 weeks while we're out of town (terrible timing). I'm really hoping that the 2 will make it. I really want to expand my flock. I've got 5 more coming from a hatchery in April but I'd love to have some homegrown ones.![]()
