2018 Newbie Chat!

I’d like to post some updated photos of the flock.
Especially Oliver; he’s becoming quite a handsome specimen lol. He’s 19 weeks; almost 5 months old.

This is Lucy. She’s one of two Partridge Rocks I have. Her comb and wattles have been red for many weeks.
Her sister Paisley isn’t red at all.
I’m thinking Lucy might start laying early.

Here’s little Itsy. I don’t know what breed she is. Maybe OEGB?
She’s developed such a cute personality since she started laying lol.

What kind of hours do they work? I would think they make visits during the day?

Just make sure everything is as clean as possible and as quiet as can be with ducks. Mine don't wuack unless they see me or get excited. Keep excitement down.
I imagine he works office hours 9-5, he hasn't been back since, nor has contacted me in any other way, which I find strange and am beginning to wonder if its even official, or perhaps he doesn't have authority, just is when he asked if I was in and got told no, he didn't leave a msg, he didn't say for me to get in touch with, he didn't even ask when I'm expected back, nor has he emailed me at all. My daughter was on her way out when he turned up so could have been because she was getting my grandson into her friends car, but I don't really know why that'd make a difference, just doesn't seem to add up, he has both mine and my daughters email address but he hasn't contacted either of us by email even to say he'd been round, he and I have never met and my daughter wondered if he thinks she's really me pretending not to be me, but I don't know, tis all confusing. Both times he came round all the birds were quiet thank goodness. I've decided to do nothing, if he emails me I'll reply and if he comes round again I will face him, I am refusing to relinquish my beauties and if they want to take me to court, so be it but I won't give up without a fight.

So I try to give all the animals a special treat on Holidays.

The chickens got..steak, chicken cat food, fresh homemade bread(they never get this), tomatoe, corn, lettuce, spinach and warm fresh cranberries

It seems I have 2 rabbits in the run--they got some Timothy hay. I realized there was a second one yesterday. How you ask? It was waiting for me to fill the water. I couldn't figure out where the water was going over night--now I know..lol. They are using the ducks pool with straw to sleep in--found one there today, that same one also spends time on top of the hutch. The chickens and ducks seem to like the rabbits and the rabbits are not trying to leave--I think they are happy where they are. I'm okay with that--I'll feed them and give water--plenty of shelter for them.i gave to say they are pretty smart :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! The other day when I let the chickens out for a while, I realized the little cuties follow me around! I was trying to keep them away from the gate in the backyard fence because they can slide under it (bantams). And every time I tried to stand in front of it they all came closer. Suddenly the light dawned and I walked 20 feet away. They all ambled over to me. I tried it again and they all came over. They actually run to me if I call, "Here chickies!" to them. It's close to what I say when I'm about to give them a treat, lol. Today I tried walking into the run when I wanted them back in and sure enough they all came. They got a nice meal worm treat then.
I have been really concerned about drafts in the coop since it's turned cold. I hung a piece of ribbon up at the same height as the roost and I feel much better now. It doesn't move. And it will move even if i blow on it a little bit. I get such good ideas from this site!

Oh my gosh! That salad is better than some I get in restaurants! It's a great idea, I never thought of giving them a bit of celebration too

I try to include them in all holidays and always celebrate the day they came into this world.

The dogs got turkey backs. My male GSD got the biggest one because he works his butt off at night kerping the raccoons and Opposums up in those trees. I'm thankful for him.
