2018 Newbie Chat!

I finally was able to get some pics of the 4 babies with the broodys.

Look at the Naked Neck on this one lol.
It has a tiny bow tie on its neck.

One of the black chicks came from Taka’s green egg. It’s likely that Oliver is the father. I don’t think I ever saw Angus breed Taka. In fact, he seemed to dislike her and would peck and chase her. She lays fantastic large, thick shelled eggs though.

My broody Australorp is set to hatch tomorrow. Whilst cleaning the coop I heard little peeps so I checked under her. Two have externally pipped.

:goodpost: awwwww the little darlings! They are beautiful and soooo cute!

Oh, I should have never hatched chicks whilst pregnant. Four hatched, all four are black. Mom is doing great, I caught her showing them water and food today, not sure if they ate or drank anything but I’ll check again tonight. Very very sad news on my fifth egg. It pipped and started to zip late last night. This morning when I checked on them it hadn’t progressed, it died in the egg. I’m so traumatized I can’t even get the egg out. Waiting for DH to get home tonight to help me bury it. I can’t stop crying, all I keep thinking is that I could have helped it.

I'm so sorry! It's so hard when they get so far along and then die. It's possible there was some defect in the chick that caused her to not make it.
:hugs

I just saw this.

It’s really difficult when the little ones don’t make it.
Sounds like you have 4 healthy babies doing well though.
And they have a Mama taking good care of them.
I’ve been enjoying watching Bootsie and Itsy parent their four.
If you want a laugh look for my post titled, “Gargoyle Terminator Broodys”. It’s under Raising Baby Chicks.
I had quite the experience with angry broodys this afternoon.
