Newborn here, chicks will go into their warm area if they are cold right...? They know where it is but I moved them into the basement where the ambiant temp is in the 60s.

They are chilling outside of the heating pad tent I made.

Calm and quiet but I'm worried

Are they huddled together like they are cold or just exploring around?
You can always herd them under the tent and hold your hand over the opening for a minute or two so they re-establish where the warmth is.
If they got moved they may not have made the connection that the warm tent came with them I guess?

They seem to be active, they spent last night down there in the tent just fine and came out this mromorn when I refreshed their feed.

I huddled them in there but they came back out, I'll stop being a worrisome chick mom...or at least I will try

They just keep coming out and getting on top, inside is 75-ish. Gets around 80-85 with all of them in it.

Wally has yet to crow. I played him a few videos of roosters crowing earlier and he seemed fascinated and concerned but alas still no crow.

My babies chirp so loudly at sundown every night. I grew exceedingly concerned about it as they quit sleeping underneath their Brinsea too. Took me a couple days to figure out what was wrong... they needed a roost. I can’t believe they have such a strong desire to roost at night at just a couple weeks old.

I know! I made a small branch roost for mine and they just love it!

Hey there just got my first chicks in the mail today.

We ordered 15 and got 17, so we are starting pretty big. I'm afraid of chicken math catching up with me. hahaha

We got Olive eggers, Easter eggers, an assortment of marans and some barred rock..

So newbie question here guys. Pecking order is being established and my chicks are almost 5 weeks. We are supposed to have all pullets except 3 that came from a straight run bin. So question: will a cockeral be alpha at this point? Here's our alpha that's looking more cockeral to us.
