Guys I’ve had so much going on the last few days.
I rescued a stranded cockatiel out of a tree on Friday.
He flew down to try to forage and I tried to get him to step on my finger but he would hiss and try to bite me.
He’d let me get pretty close to him though.
So I took my sweater and and tossed it over him and it worked!
I gently gathered him up and put him in a box in my car.
I’ve been trying to find who he belongs to ever since.
It seems there’s a lot of people with lost cockatiels in my area.
But I haven’t found his owner yet even though I’ve talked to seven different people.
I’ve posted on local Facebook lost & found pages too.
This is becoming an ordeal :barnie
After I meet the last person on Friday, if he’s not hers, I’m going to take him to the Humane Society.

So my more experienced newbies, can y'all tell me what this particular sound means? I figure it's some kind of alert/warning. Just before he did this something hit our tin fence. I'm thinking a bug flew into it.
I think it’s an alarm.
All of my hens started doing that one day.
It sounds like the egg song to me.
But they were all out in the yard; nobody was laying.
I saw that they were all watching something on the other side of the chain link fence.
One of my hens was very upset about it and was looking really hard at something.
Then I saw movement...it was a neighborhood cat.
He was stalking some small birds nearby.
My girls didn’t like the cat over there.
So they sent out an alarm that spoiled his hunting stalk lol.
The cat looked so disgusted as he walked away :gig

Omg that's funny! Chickens have amazing vision!
But Thank you! If I look up rooster warning call it's all about chicken hawks and they do a screech/scream type of thing. They all got in one big circle and stood straight up and looked around everywhere until Dwight stopped. Then they all scattered and did their own thing around the yard.

Yeah they do that call too.
My rooster will do it when there’s nothing there!
He also tidbits to the hens and he has nothing for them!
What a jerk lol.
That cat incident was the first time they had done that though.
They did it again the next day but I couldn’t see what they were going on about.
I always wonder what some of the softer sounds they make mean.
My chicks are the first ones I’ve raised myself and they have sounds they make to me when they see me.
Like a greeting chirp or “Hey, I know you”.
Early on I learned to recognize what I call the, “where are you?” chirp.
Some of them would do it to me when I’d leave the garage :love:hugs

Saturday mine where all doing it... 2 coops worth, I guess all 3 really the meaties where kinda skidish but they always are! Turns out a red fox was about 100 feet along the edge of the woods. I took the German Shepherd and went for a walk in that area. Dog never even saw it! Maybe the hens are better then the dog!

Last batch of new chicks are due to ship today. Waiting for a tracking number so I can refresh that tracking page every 10 minutes!

There’s no need to put shavings in your run. They take a long time to break down and when you add in poop and moisture from rain it’s not a good combination.
Plus, on a plain dirt run your girls will make their own dust baths which they will really love! :ya
Hmmm, that's good to know and definitely something to consider (not using pine shavings). Will save a few $$'s too. :) Thank you!!

At 10 days the meaties are getting there fuzz....
They have been outside for a week now, It got cold today high around 60 low of 45 last night and again tonight. They Seam to be taking to the cold nicely. Warmer by the weekend hopefully the pet taxi and heat can both go away in about a week.

Sounds like the egg song my girls make when someone is laying! It’s my favorite noise they make. Mine have a vocab of about fifteen different noises. Most of which are shrieks and screams.
