Sounds like the egg song my girls make when someone is laying! It’s my favorite noise they make. Mine have a vocab of about fifteen different noises. Most of which are shrieks and screams.
It took me a while to realize that this can be an alarm sound because they saw a predator.
It sounds the same as the egg song to my ear but I bet to chickens there’s a difference.
One of my Wyandottes is noisy.
The rest are fairly quiet most of the time.
The chicks are starting to make a bit more grown up noises now at 10 weeks.
Well really it’s the boys.

I love my boys!
How am I going to find good homes for Conan and Loki? :hit
It’s hard because not everyone likes NNs.
I think they’re all fine looking boys though. :love
I’ve decided to keep Angus because he’s not as aggressive and he seems to really like me.
He has started to jump up on my lap when he sees me sit down in a chair or something.
He doesn’t want me to touch him, just let him sit there.
I never give him food, he just does it of his own choice.
He’ll sit there and look at me.
My mom says he loves me lol :love
Today he jumped on my back when I was looking at Conan (who has a bad limp!:barnie).
Then later he jumped on my shoulder when Loki was on my lap.

Excited because I think tomorrow I get my chicks from Meyer. The package hasn’t updated in 24 hours but still says delivering tomorrow so I am hoping to get a call and pick up from the post office first thing in the AM. Took a vacation day From work during which I will introduce the chicks to their coop (using whole coop as brooder due to them being the first of the flock) with Mama Heating pad already on and water bottles (vertical nipples on recycled bottles) already filled.

I also plan on using the off time from work to construct their 5 gallon horizontal waterer to introduce in 2 weeks or so and finalize their bigger feeder for when they are 1 week old, stretch 2 tarps over the 8x8 run, build a ramp for the coop to run connection, and build a two compartment grit and oyster shell feeder.

Getting...
1 Barred Rock
1 Partridge Rock
1 Easter Egger
1 Delaware
1 Buff Orpington
And 1 New Hampshire Red

I notice many suggestion to feed new chicks on a piece of paper or something at first and then transition to the gravity style ubiquitous chick feeder. (Which I will only use a week before going to a PVC No Waste feeder). Why the paper? I can’t imagine them not knocking all that food off quickly and I don’t want them to go hungry and be stunted for life when I am at work the following day.... can they figure out the regular chick feeder in 1 day?

doc
are yours on there way to the next location too?
hoping i can go to the post office on the way to work at 4:30 get the chicks, back home and the to work for 7, only a hour late..... if not my wife just picked up 77 meats on her own and got them safely into the brooder that was not 100% ready so i'm sure she will do fine with 16 into a brooder that is ready!

My post office stinks!
I checked at 430 and no update.... I went to work. At 7:24 they called and said they where in. My wife was home and had to be to work for 9. She owns her own gym and had to be there for a class! After she asked about them just coming in I checked on line and it showed they arrived at 445! WTH!?!?:barnie

She ran to the PO and then Home and then to work, only a couple minutes late to open/class. If they called at 445 I could have been late.... but I’m over a hour from home. How hard is it to make a phone call!? ?!?!?

You have a cool variety of breeds! I am obviously a fan of the mixed flock :p

I've never read to feed chicks from paper first. I fed mine from the feeder right away, but I made sure they knew where the food was.
I have read to keep them walking on paper towel instead of shavings at first, but not feeding.

Yay chickies!
Yeah that's what happened with me too. I was hoping they would arrive Thursday since I had the day off work, no call. Then Friday morning I had my phone turned way up so I would wake up if they called before work. They called when I was ON MY WAY to work. So I had to send my mom to pick them up *tear*
Also the USPS tracking does not update in real time. It still said they were in another state when we picked them up I think.
