2018 Newbie Chat!

Ohhh dear - "It never rains but it pours!" I am so sorry for you that everything has been so hard for you and now you are getting bombarded with everything happening at once but ohh my, what a trooper you are! Everything against you yet you achieve so much. I hope things will get easier for you very very soon and I wish Sunni all the best too but with you taking care of her she has every bit of a fighting chance. I admire you for your strength and courage and your willingness and ability to fight against adversity - all this worry yet you still managed to administer the upmost care and attention to all your flocks and get the lights done too! You deserve a great big well done :clapand I hope you remember to give yourself a great big pat on the back - you totally deserve it :hugs

Awwww Thank you.

I'm very relieved that I got those lights up and I can start getting the chickens use to it.

Oh and I did work with the laser a little bit. They are interested in it and the younger ones did peck at it. Now to move that to the waterer.

And once I successfully give Sunni her medicine I will rest easier.

She is in good hands with you, I have to admit for me giving the birds medicine is my biggest nightmare - a couple of weeks ago I had to give one of our drakes some nutri-drench, oh my gosh what a shambles it was! We don't have nutri-drench nor anything like it over here so I had to buy online and was charged extortionate prices for shipping, so could only afford a small bottle to begin with - after much running about trying to catch the drake who usually has no qualms when I approach him and even eats out of my hand but whom seemed to know I wanted to pick him up so ran away when I even so much as looked in his direction, my daughter held our drake while I opened his beak and gently dripped it in as I am not experienced and didn't want to risk getting it into his lungs, took about ten minutes or so and when we were done I was so relieved until I accidentally knocked over the nutri-drench bottle which I hadn't put the cap back on! We lost all but a quarter of the content, thankfully there was enough left for what we needed. I was so annoyed at myself, especially as it is so expensive and will be a while till we can order some more.
I haven't got the nipple waterer yet, I have it on my Christmas wish list, at 55 yrs there isn't really anything I need so I've asked family who want to buy for me to choose something off a list of affordable things I need for the chickens and ducks. When I get it I am going to try the peanut butter method first save shelling out for something I'd only use once, but if doesn't work I'll get a laser pen after all.
Please keep us posted with all your developments and Sunni too please :)

Awwww such a cutie :hugshow does he get on with the chickens - are the chickens bothered by him? Lovely pictures and a lovely story, thanks for sharing :)
He wants to chase them, of course.
I don't let the chickens out at the same time as the dogs though.
Even my older dog wants to chase down a chicken dinner. She lost interest after she realized there is no way to get at them though. The puppy (Trio) is still interested and sometimes tries to chase them but there is a fence between them so he eventually leaves them alone.
They were a bit alarmed by him at first but now I think they have gotten a bit more used to him, since they know he can't get at them.
Pretty sure he'll eventually lose interest as they become a part of the scenery. :p

Anyone here know anything about incubating eggs? I have one egg that is a 50% chance was Sunny"s. Not even a couple days ago I used up all the duck eggs and now I could kick myself. I was considering grabbing 2-3 of Lucys eggs and putting 4 in an incubator. I figure if I did this around November 1st and was successful I would have December babies. I would keep them insude until about March. I found a 7 egg incubator.

I have to do more research, but it's something like this one

I say give it a shot.
Do you have others to hatch with it?
I don't have any experience with incubating but I would definitely suggest taking a look at the hatching section.
