[No More Empty Nest]

I am planning on hatching some this spring if I get a broody: jubilee orpingtons and LF Blue Cochins.

We expect updates and pictures, lots of pictures, lol!

Awwwww that's a bummer I'm convinced they miss you too, I can see by your videos they know who you are and I believe our birds see us as part of their flocks so there is no reason for them not to miss you too - roll on summer at least then it will be light enough for them to stay out for when you get home.
Incidentally, how is your new job going, I remember you telling us it's the job you wanted, are you enjoying it?

Oh they know me but chickens don’t have enough brain capacity for long term memory.
That’s why they forget flock members that have been away for even less than a week.
That’s why birds that have been ill or recovering from injury have to be reintroduced if the flock wasn’t able to see them for that time.
So it stands to reason they could forget me.
However, I go out to the coop with a lantern when I get home and talk to them for a couple of minutes.
It’s cute because they’re all lined up on different rungs on the ladder roost.
Then I go over to the little coop and say hi and goodnight to Cricket, Mitzi and Minnie.
The new job is just great!
I’m trying to learn to do a job I already know on a completely different computer system

They do have a lot of visual similarity. I think the roo is MUCH wider than a sussex- I'll see if I can get a top view of him later today.

I'm getting ready to bring these guys back in for the holidays. I won't have to worry about them being safe or cut my visits short. I put together a nice little area. I was looking for wood all day because I refuse to buy it. I need it to put in my temp area I made for them. Had no luck, then I was leaving work and some guys were putting up a door and I saw the crate the door came in and asked about it. The guy pointed to the truck and said all that wood is going on the trash. Well not in my watch...lol. He even cut the longer pieces so they got in the car. It's really good wood, hope to get the same kind for the coop. I got really lucky, I felt like a kid at Christmas.
