2018 Newbie Chat!

Attempted hawk attack today. The annoying black netting held up though! Have a few pullets with bloody spots on their combs, assuming it is from the frantic coop run. Will try and doctor later, they are all wound up right now.

Pretty pleased with the bird netting!
Thank goodness your netting held strong! Sorry to hear your flock got injured but glad they didn't get attacked :)

In the 40s today after a week of teens. Chickens are thrilled with the sunshine!

This inside thing is working out ok. I am able to work my normal hours and the mess is minimal thanks to the idea of the tarp coming up the sides. I did not go far enough up on one side, so I have to clean that. Boy can these guys kick. They are all still laying and they are using my homemade roost bars.It may not be normal but it is working..the ducks are getting rather spoiled. They start quacking when the water in the tub gets to cold and I go and change it. I have a barrier up between Duke and the rest, they do keep knocking that down and I have to fix it often. I just don't want the boys to fight threw the bars.

I love not worrying about predators during the dark times and I'm not home. I'm sleeping better knowing they are safe at night too. Spring can not come fast enough so I can worry at night only...lol
