I've got several holes in the lid to let air in all the time, and also since I'm hand turning I'm completely opening the incubator at least five times a day, too. Air flow is really important for these guys.

"several holes", now this is because I'm starting doubt myself and obsessing about every detail, please give an exact number !!! "holes".....dimes size hole, quarter size, grapefruit... all kidding aside, how many holes and how big are they??

Lol, I've got one big nickel-sized one that I used to run the power cord through and also is a lot of nice ventilation. There's also a large square that's cut out right over the Incukit that needed to be there so the display could poke through, and also because of this it sits over the fan so the fan is able to easily draw fresh air in, which is awesome. And then just two or three more small ones that I made using a drill bit, can't remember which size.

This is the best picture I have showing the hole around the Incukit and two of the smaller holes.

Thanks for the "hole" info. i think i'm ok but might add more tonight. going to find some corks and make the holes that size so i can, open or shut them as needed.

turning eggs....i ve been turning my eggs 180 to the left. from 12 o'clock to six, then next turn from 6 BACK to 12. with chicken eggs i usually go 12 to 6 then from 6 AHEAD to 12. a full 360. hope this is making sense. maybe ive always been doing chickens wrong. i ve read emu eggs are only supposed to be turned 180. am i understanding correctly? just like the air-holes i'm questioning everything. I think the pressure to do this right is because of the limited availability of the eggs, i mean with chicken you can get new eggs and try again. Emus you got to wait a year.

I didn't even obsess that much over the two eggs I just hatched - the weight loss was good so I stopped even weighing after about 3 weeks. Hand turned 4-5 times a day so the incubator was always open and when they cracked I was *always* opening it and whistling at them. When I turned I flipped 180 but wasn't good about the sides, I did try to alternate.

Well that's weird, I wonder why? Shows fine on my end. BYC being strange, apparently.

Just a quick weight loss update on my eggs.

Egg A has lost 38.2 grams, and should have lost 40.8. A little behind, but still perfectly safe, and weight loss tends to pick up towards the middle of incubation anyway, so I'm not concerned. Egg B has lost 36.5 and should have lost 34.2. A little high, but again, still safe, and recovering from the excessive loss that happened early in incubation. Egg C has lost 35 grams and should have lost 35.1. That is pretty much as perfect as you can hope for Egg D has lost 36.6 grams and should have lost 38.4, so it's in the same boat as egg A. Again, not concerning. Egg E continues to be weird, and has lost 33.7 grams and should have lost 40.2. That is officially now out of the safe range. Still no bad smell from it though.

Through an unexpected fb message, I’ve had the opportunity to add 14 more eggs to the incubator. Way more than I planned for but I really couldn’t pass up the deal either. I haven’t staggered emu hatches before but I don’t think it’ll be an issue, there will only be about 5 days between them. Now hopefully 23 eggs will fit & I can get enough oxygen flow in there
