Agh, I just cried for James. What a sweet kid you have! Good job. I am sure they were only banging on the back door to check on James and totally forgive him. Poor kiddo!

They were just fine. He was not! They were only an hour or so late to eat but I swear that little boy lives his feathered friends more than himself. And us.

That’s seriously the most wholesome thing I’ve read in a long long time. Your kid is definitely one of the good ones! He’s gonna grow up to be an amazing person, you should be proud!

He's definitely my animal lover. A friend of his bought the boys live mealworms instead of dead ones, thinking she was doing something nice. James flipped a nutty because he didn't want the mealworms to die. Ummmmm... for real? He's the kid that thinks, "How would you like to be a mealworms and be ripped from your parents and eaten by a duck?"

Dead mealworms are totally ok though.

OMG that’s hilarious :lau
Him and my mother would get along. She feels bad for the live minnows I feed my girl :confused:
I do too in a way but their deaths are pretty quick and Penny has a lot of fun chasing them in the tub so I kinda justify it to myself :duc

He sounds sweet though, and so do your ducks!

Question from new house duck owner; how do you handle the poop situation? :oops:
In the pictures you shared I didn’t see a diaper so I was curious! I’m still amazed by how much these little things poop :eek:

They poop about every three steps :). And no, we don't do diapers. We do a ton of laundry though! Our entire living room is covered in old blankets/sheets when they're inside. For the most part, they stay on those when they're inside. We do get a rogue poop every so often in the hallway or kitchen but we have wood and tile floors so it's easy to grab with toilet paper.

When inside the spend most of their time in the living room so it's covered (literally). My son keeps a laundry basket (also their car riding basket) on top of their sleeping pen with a ton of blankets and sheets for them and he does laundry daily.

Wow that’s impressive he does laundry himself! Definitely a good kid haha.

My washer seems to have trouble with the duck poop and it sorta stays sandy in there so I have to either shake out most of the poop outside before washing or find an alternative.

It’s smart you cover the entire floor!!

@MarlyMonster

Gil lays her egg every morning in her little cat house! She loves it and her aunt got her it for christmas. It was perfect timing because she started laying on Feb 1st!

I had to cut the opening to make it a little wider for her to use it but she LOVES it now!
It has a nice pad insert so she just uses that to 'nest' and then goes about her day. It makes cleaning great because I can pull the insert out and clean just that or run the whole thing through the washing machine along with her waterproof dog bed. She does not use the waterproof dog bed. She prefers to just lay out wherever.
