2021 Chick Order

Oh no, we have a guest room and storage room in the basement. The first few weeks if their lives I move to the guest room so if something happens I'm right there
Granted because the shipments are so spaced that means I'm in the guest room like 2 months this year, so yay 😑

Bit hard to see, I'll get better images tomorrow, I'm thinking one of my piggies is a smutty buff. It had a dusky dorsal strip on its down and it's wings are coming in smutty too compared to the other buffs

Gah, lost 4 more today. 2 bresse, a naked neck bantam and one of the dark cornish subs. The Cornish in not sure about, but I'm afraid I stressed too badly last night. No signs of pasty butt and the breese were limp still, not stiff like usual. I'm running to the store to pick up some savachick stuff, not sure what else to do. They have feed and fresh filtered water, there's a heat spit and a cool spot, and the Cochins in that group are starting to act a bit off too now.

Are the problems all with one group?
I assume the bedding and feed are the same for all the batches?

Are you using a heat lamp or heat plate or both with them?

Have you checked their crops, to make sure they're eating enough?
Maybe try a dish of wet food to see if it encourages them to eat more, in case that's the trouble?

(I'm just throwing out a pile of questions, in hopes that something will help find the problem. I don't have any specific ideas about what could be going on here.)

Welp and Dunlap have both had most of the problems. Welp has stabilized now that they're about a week and now it's just Dunlap. I'm down to about 12 of a 25 order with them. If it had just been the naked necks it would have made sense since the bresse are like 4 times their size, but I've lost half the Bresse too. They're all eating nice, hardly any pasty butts.

All the batches have the same shavings and all have a heat lamp. Ideal has a heat pad too since there are so many in that box and they kept going under and getting lost. The other groups never even bothered to try and go under so I took the pads out.

I can try the moist food again, but they're already eating fine from what I can see. They act fine and then a few hours later there's one or two flat and stiff and cold.

The feed is all the same too, medicated chick stuff (no one had that vaccine).

That's really odd.

I can't think of anything else that could be causing it--you seem to have been pretty thorough in ruling out all of the usual causes and then a few more I hadn't thought of!

I do hope you are able to get it sorted out soon.

I do too. I'll have to place another order now because with only 2 naked necks left we both know they're both little dudes 😅
