2021 Chick Order

Then it is more likely that you have two males.

I just don't know enough about that color and that breed, so I would keep it for now and see how it develops. But that's partly because I like to see what happens.

But I don't know how desperate you are to reduce the total number of chicks by removing the less-good ones, so you may not want to keep "maybes" around.
The silkies I have to hold onto anyhow since they're practically impossible to sex before the swap so I'm planning to just take any that absolutely scream male then.

I'm not necessarily desperate but it's easier to decide who to not start cuddling. The barred are nice because they're easy to sex early and I know i only need girls so I can just not mind the males besides to clean them. The frizzles are the opposite though since I actually need a boy so I'm hoping I can get a decent amount for the girls I end up with at least

Lost 3 today, one I'm not surprised about since I have been expecting it to croak for a few days now. The 2nd I think maybe just got trampled (a smaller chick in the IDEAL group) and the 3rd was fine while unpacking my mystery babies and by the time I got up to leave, it was writhing on its back and going limp.

Speaking of mysteries, I ended up with 4 from TSC. They were incredibly helpful and patient with me and let me inspect the ones they grabbed. It was just a bin of breedless st runs, but take a look at the pictures and tell me what you see is different about 2 of them (bonus points if you say both things)🤔🤗😍. All were very active and healthy looking and I do have hopes for them.

Mine normally have meaties, australorps, assorted bantams and white leghorns and that's it unless I buy from them online. This group had no breed tag though and I know 2 of these are none of what are usually carried

Oh ok mine has been selling cool breeds maby it’s different from each state? Last year they sold basic breeds but now some really cool breeds.

Cool . Today they sold welsummer pullets and shappfire splash straight run and Cornish cross meat birds assorted bantam blue laced gold wydotee straight run Amberlink pullets. But I did not get them because I already have chicks from TSC and a broody hen I was just strolling around the chick section once I got more starter medicated feed from my chicks at home.

I don't know which things you're seeing as different, but here's what I find in the photos:

The first two have 5 toes, the other two do not.
The first two have distinct light patches on their feet, the 3rd sort-of has a light area on one foot but it's less obvious, the 4th appears to have completely dark feet.
The 2nd and 3rd have some yellow in their down, but I'm not seeing yellow in the down of the 1st and 4th.
The only comb I can see clearly is the first one, so that's probably not the area you're noticing.
I can't tell on the first one, but I'm pretty sure the other three are growing normal feathers, not silkie-texture feathers.

I don't know what they are, but I am not used to seeing chickens with dark skin, extra toes, AND clean legs. (Because dark skin + extra toes usually means Silkie or mix, which means feathered legs & feet.)

For the last one, I almost wonder if it's supposed to be an Ayam Cemani? I'm expecting them to show up in the normal hatcheries any time now, given how many places have been selling them for how long.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow!

You actually pointed out more things that are different 😅😆

The main things I noticed were that 2 had extra toes, but both only have an extra toe on one foot. They each have 9 toes total and then the other two are just normal babies.

I'm thinking maybe they're this mystic onyxs since Hoover's is the main supplier here.

But the fact they didn't even have a breed card makes me wonder if they're local chicks.... 🤔 but I know most of the people here who actively hatch, especially that many. There were like 40 in the bin yesterday. One was even all yellow. That was the main reason I came back actually but not surprisingly someone snagged that one right up
