2021 Chick Order

Pics
I have updated this far less than I intended, sorry. It's been a terribly rough week. I've lost 4 seperate birds in 4 days (A Phoenix hen to a sheep [yes, a sheep. My 300lb ewe hates chickens with a first passion], her daughter to a dead foot wound [long story, can elaborate if wanted though], my quail Luftwaffe [sp?] to flying the coop, and my D'Anvers hen Gimpy to a fox that took her off our porch yesterday morning.

I put 5 silkies and the Columbian Wyandotte chicks up on a poultry page on Facebook to try and move them along while they're cute And get a bit of my cost back. So Benny, Three Toes, Three Fingers and Splice (the 4 odd footed silkies) and Piglet (the tiny buff silkie) are hopefully going to find new homes before they get older and become males 😅

I'm sorry for your losses :hugs

I hope they sell!

Alright, who's ready for decent pictures of funky silkie feet?

First up is Benny (from Total Recall. Look up the characters arm and you'll see why this one got that name)

And then Dren (From Splice, one of my favorite movie plots)

And finally we have Three Fingers and Three Toes (From the Wrong Turn franchise.) Three Toes has only three toes (2 on one foot, 1 on the other) and Three Fingers has the double nail on one toe

(Excuse the poop, these double nails are rather hard to give pedicures)

They can grow a crest (feathers) without having the vaulted skull (what you can see now as chicks.) So you won't know for sure until they get feathers on their heads.
Oh neat. I've never seen one without a vaulted skull. The one from this group I'm keeping had one, and that was my main worry honestly 😅

I had Appenzeller Spitzhaubens some time ago, and they all grew crests but only some had the vaulted skulls. When I butchered the extra males, I was able to take a good look at the skulls (dead birds hold still much better than live ones).

Huh, interesting. I thought crests needed a vaulted skull
