2021 Chick Order

Pics
:( That's part of what I'm not sure about.

I typically do not have barred birds, because there's always some other color I think is prettier. So I know the theory--more white on the males--but I don't know where to draw the line. If you are able to raise them until the combs/wattles make their gender clear, then you'll know for next time.

I sometimes just butcher probable-males as early as I think I know, and check for testicles. I'm been right more often than not with the ones I've raised, but as I said, that has not included ones with barring.
Alright thanks. I might just wait until the swap to move males. It's the first of May so they should show their genders by then, right? They'll be 6-8 weeks by then

Yes, I would expect most of the males to be fairly clear by then.

The more you have of each breed & age, the easier it is to tell by comparing them.
I have the most trouble with one of a kind, or 2-3 that happen to be the same gender as each other.

Awesome. I ended up with 7 out of 12 or 13 , so I'm thinking maybe 3 girls and 4 boys. I won't complain at that point since it's close enough to 50 50 with an odd number

Gah, the Welp batch stressed me out all night. I took their heat lamp away since they're at 3 weeks and they have the heating pad and those knuckleheads didn't use it at all last night. They all just clustered in the absolute opposite corner and huddled. All night. In 50 degrees.

The pad is high enough to go under easily on one end, but they're old enough now I can't just shove them all under anymore without them all panicking and jumping out of the box.

Round two with cornish bantams. IDEAL had someone cancel an order so i have 3 dark and 3 wlb cornish bantams coming the 7th. No whites, but I'll try again when I'm not in classes and work and having a family friend staying here all at once

That's good news!

But is "wlb" a typo for wlr (White Laced Red) or blr (Blue Laced Red), or is there a new color I haven't seen before?

Oh, sorry. Meant BLR. Darn autocorrect.

I'm honestly toying with keeping my male BLR I currently have (He's such a sweetheart and he really is pretty but I only had enough females for one male last year and they absolutely could not live together when they started getting hormones. But I'm making a type of batchlor pad in my shed (cages so the males are still seperate but they have space to walk and roost) so maybe if I get 3 females out of the batch (preferably 2 blr so I can have one for each male) I'll make the space for him

Also got my Yokohamas 🤗 added

And no, I'm still below the number I lost in what's coming, made sure to keep it that way

Gosh my Bresse chicks are stupid sometimes. And I mean that endearingly like when a parent admits their kid isn't the sharpest. They're a bunch of beefy stawheads who get lost when jumping the box or get triggered when I reach in to grab anything. Gentle with the smaller bantams now though compared to the first week.

Also rather big birds, but I'm thinking just compared to bantams because my Minorca are the same size and those birds are not large adults.

I'm a bit concerned with leg for because apparently they should have blue legs. Does that happen later or should they be born with blue legs?
