2022 Chick Order

Pics
I peruse the hatchery websites daily, mentally adding chicks and making lists for 2023. The feed stores up north haven’t even started chick days yet. I’m gonna end up with 100. 😳
Looking at Hatchery sites, eBay, Craig’s List… and walking into the Feed Store… it’s so hard… I am looking for specific breeds so I have said no to a lot… but it is so hard in the feed store! I did not bring home the black sex link I was eyeing, just the Naked Necks today…

I’m looking for Rosecomb RIR and RIW… possibly Dominiques. I want some good examples of these breeds.
Need a few more Black Swedish.

The WTB and friends are growing so fast! Mostly just the WTB lol, they seem very quick maturing. We’re setting up their hoop coop this week so they have room to explore. After our hatching eggs due this weekend, there’s no current plans on adding. I mainly want to focus on covering the big girls’ run in preparation for any lockdowns. They’re all mingling perfectly now and I don’t want to split them up… We'll see what the restrictions are next month when our next order is due to ship. I want to add some Sicilian Buttercups with that group as well and the feed store told me they’re not cancelling shipments 🤞🏼

Beautiful pics! I don’t know what your time constraints are, but I would love to see closeups and breed labels! Do all the WTB look like this one. Soooo adorable! ❤️

I'm sure you've said why you want the rosecomb, but I can't recall... What's your breeding goal again?

I would LOVE to have a breeding project, but that ain't happening any time soon. My interest at the moment is along the lines of "what would X over Y look like? What color(s) would I get?" and that's not a good enough reason right now.

If I had a reason to hatch my own eggs, then I'd indulge, but I don't have any reason more than curiosity.

I’ll try for some when I move them to the kitchen brooder ☺️ They’re all so different! I really thought they’d look similar since so many were chipmunk. I don’t like partridge 😬 This one is called apricot and is highly sought after. There were two and this one had the lightest markings (the other went to another home)

Too soon??? Oh well, I am just so excited! I’d love to hear about your chick orders too!

Meyers 4/6
2 buff laced Polish pullets
2 white topped black pullets (hubby’s request)
4 salmon Faverolle pullets

McMurrays 6/6
5 Mille Fleur bantam SR
5 blue bantam Cochin SR
5 buff bantam Brahma SR
1 Ameraucana pullet (I know, I know)
1 mystery chick

Decisions to be made:
This year I ordered a Wyandotte assortment with plans of selling some. Now I’m all attached 😩 Do I reallllllllly need more than two per colour? Or even really one per colour??? We have two Colombian, 3 GLW, and 4 SLW
The downside of having too many alike is you can't tell them apart but on the up side they all get along good. I raise auto-sexing purebreds that can be sexed earlier than others. Last year I ordered chicks from Purely Poultry but this year I ordered 10 from IDEAL.

(5) Welsummers and Barred rocks for project to recreate Welbars (rare).
(4) Delaware pullets (great for meat or eggs) I have a rooster same breed.
(1) Dominique cockerel to fertilize the eggs of my last year Dominique hens.
