2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

Pics
I do have the mix in the water for everyone. The temp is closer to 95 as it is a small brooder and they have to leave it to get out of the heat if we make it any hotter. I am working on getting them a bigger space as this takes up most of our tub at his point. please see pics for set up.
How is your sleepy one doing today!

The littles have joined the bigs! On an as-desired basis at least. They spent the last week in the grow out pen able to see and be seen by the ladies. Left the Pandora open just enough that the littles can get out and in but the bigs can't, they are loving the extra space and all but two chickens don't mind the littles: Pengu the bully and Silver who is kinda broody and doesn't like anyone (I say kinda as she isn't consistent on her nest of choice and as of a few minutes ago was clucking away under the coop).

It is with a sad heart that I tell you My sweet one passed away in my arms about 30 minutes ago.😭 I tried everything but she wasn't eating so I made mush and nothing she just was to weak I guess. We gave her water up until the end but it didn't keep her alive. She was the smallest of all out chicks. I will say that I am not doing well with this and while I was crying I told my husband that we needed to get new homes for the other chicks because I cant do this again....He and our friend talked me out of it thankfully. But man this is not what I thought or expected. Thank you for all your help!

Oh Tremogg, I am so sorry for your loss! I'm thankful you aren't giving up on the others and will continue to raise them up. Chickens are such rewarding creatures :hugs Crazy how attached we can get in such a short time.

I would let Cackle know that the little one didn't make it since the are within the first two days. If you don't feel up to a can you can email them as well.

I agree the excitement of the texts are fun. I got the same type of text. They made labels, they got to first place, they waiting at second place. Estimated date of arrival 4 days later....got got them on their 3rd day from hatch. 5am text saying delivered at my local post office . Package out for delivery. Says package placed in unsecured area.
hahahaha. I went to post office at 8am opening lobby time guy says oh its here. We can hear them... We put the live animals in a special spot. and don't deliver them..... you will get your babies* best wishes for a safe delivery

ok so today has been rough with my Roo showing signs of distress and then 2 more of the hens having bad poo but.....the good news is no one has died yet. our chicks are not vaccinated and we didnt feed medicated food but we did read the forums and they are showing signs of coxy so we went and got corid and started right away this morning. We have been putting a little in a lid and dipping thier beaks to get them all to drink so we know for sure all are being treated. We are giving a little more to the Roo since he is worse off.
Fast forward to this evening and they are all doing better the roo is drinking more on his own and has started to show interest in food again:woot:wee:fl so I am feeling cautiously optimistic that we may not lose anymore.
BTW we named the Roo....Blue and he has a blue heart/dot on his head and blue on his wings. And we have a hen who has 2 black dots on her rear end and she was our first hen to scratch at the food with her feet and she looked just like Thumper in Bambi doing it so we have named her Thumper LOL.

When they are for sure out of the woods I will post better pics.

Is anyone else having issues with poop on your chicks feet? I have my little guys on puppy pads which I change out 2-3 times a day but I find I am still having to wash thier feet to get the poop off as I dont want them to get sores. (I think a few of them might have sores already)

Any Advice?
