I've decided to be ridiculously ambitious and see if I can get green speckled eggs as a true-breeding trait for a first breeding project. This was the easier of the two ideas I had and hubby gave me the green light before really understanding what it meant....."non program roo"..... Because I'm nosy, that IS the program?
I put the brooder plate in with our shipped chicks at a week old. The ones hatching on Wednesday I plan to do it as their first heat source out of the brooder.

He's amazing and tolerates all my chicken craziness. I think 70 chicks in one year might be his limit though

I'm still side-eyeing the Wyandotte with the bright red comb and wattles who was supposed to be a pullet. None of the Ameraucaunas SR seem to be showing any signs. A couple have darker heads and slightly larger legs and that's it. The waiting... so hard... I'm going to get pics to start a gender guessing thread for fun later.
Good luck and congrats on your new chicks! Just remember to turn your brooder light on before going to the post office to get the brooder up to temperature when chicks are back and put inside.I just found this thread and mine should hatch/ship tomorrow. Yeah, I have a cuckoo marans I'm suspicious of....I'm a few weeks behind you sooo still trying to wait patiently.We have our first (heard) attempt at crowing! It snowed today so hubby was getting the chicks ready to put out in the grow out pen from the garage and while he had his back turned he heard it! Absolutely no idea who it was but it happened. Now we know that out of 12 straight run the is at least one cockerel
I may have gotten my coworkers equally invested in the little chicks journey since I've been getting texts asking for updates lol
