Last but not least, my “Midwife” chicken. She paces and clucks quietly whenever I have a new layer, almost as if she is there for moral support. She is an “Ameraucana” from McMurray, and lays a bright robins egg blue egg.

This is Willamina, my hatchery RIR. She's always been the most outgoing and curious pullet, and the only one to let me pick her up without fuss. She's always the first in line for treats and loves to eat right out of my hands. Unfortunately this weekend she and some of the others got some frostbite from the severe cold.

This is Amadeo. He's an Isabella Leghorn. He hatched on 4 June 2022 and was raised by one of the hens in my flock. I love the way he runs alongside me toot-tooting enthusiastically when I bring food out for them, and in general he's a great lookout and guardian of the girls. 1st of 4 photos of him
