Smokey is sitting in there like a broody hen would. Is she getting ready to lay her first egg or broody over an already laid egg? How early do pullets go broody? She is moving around and fluffing up the straw but she hasn't stood up yet.

Here she's in the nest box and now Bandit is on the floor - and has tossed shavings on her back and looks like she's trying to lay an egg down there - she laid an egg 3 days ago in that spot doing the same thing.

Most of my pullets "practiced" before they laid for the first time.

She could be practicing or actually working on laying. Wait until dusk when they go to roost and then check out where she was sitting. [IMG]

Must have just been practicing. She's walking around the yard now and no egg in sight. Bummer.

Don't be discouraged -- at least she's practicing in the right place!
