23 day incubation - Help needed to determine chick viability

ok i have a 23 day old egg i thought it may be dead so i brock the top of the shell where the air cell is and i can see the chick inside the mebraine is see through and wet so is that good ro not ??? should he be moving around that i can see? what should i look for to see if hes alive ??



BUT BIG QUESTION! WITH NO AIR CELL WHEN HE PIPS THROUGH THE MEMBRAINE WILL HE JUST BREATH NORMAL AIR THEN HATCH ??

Ok, first relax. Please give people here on BYC a moment to answer. Also, if you want more people to respond to your post, consider being more detailed about what you need help with.


Once you broke the egg open, did you see the chick moving? You said that the membrane is wet, so the chick is not stuck, right?
 
It sounds like it is already dead.

Just in case, watch the chick for movement. Take a q-tip and touch the chick to see if it will respond.

If the chick had been alive you wold have seen movement without touching it.
