Was he an assisted hatch by any chance? Poultry Cell is what I use especially for ducklings that hatch with problems standing. I give .25cc orally in a syringe you just add a drop at a time on the edge of the inside of the bill to not aspirate. Here's a picture I just took yesterday of Dorian, he is from my last hatch that looked exactly like your little one initially and was given poultry cell for the first week.Hey guys needing help. He was assisted in the end. His membranes were stuck to him and he couldn’t zip. Do you know what causes this ?Was he an assisted hatch by any chance? It's just a general poultry supplement. The big thing is your duckling needs niacin at the very least right now. As far as assisted hatches I breed a breed of duckling that is known for its hatching issues often requiring assistance with hatching. I have noticed that the assisted hatches are the ones who often have trouble walking initially and need a little extra help for the first week. I have also found that assisted hatches often will grow a little slower than their hatchmates, but once full grown you never would know the difference. He was assisted in the end. His membranes were stuck to him and he couldn’t zip. Do you know what causes this ?
What is poultry cell exactly? Im in australia so poultry cell isn’t available I’d need to order it in. Is there a substitute ?
Thank you I have some vitamins I will try. Would you suggest leaving him in the incubator? Was typing my response, but @AstroDuck beat me to it.
Have you tried offering a vitamin supplement, like Poultry Nutri-Drench, in case the cause is a deficiency? If you do, it's important not to put the liquid directly into the duck's bill - I like to use a cotton swab dipped in the Nutri-Drench and just touch it to the corner of the bill, so it can drip in and be swallowed without the duck aspirating it.
I hope your duckling's doing better soon!
If this duckling that hatched it's fine to place in the brooder if you have others what I do is take a clear container, set the duckling in the container (of course with no lid) and then place in the brooder.Thank you I have some vitamins I will try. Would you suggest leaving him in the incubator?
Thank you. I’ve found a poultry vitamin at home that has niacin in it.Was typing my response, but @AstroDuck beat me to it.
