24 weeks and no eggs?

I found this in the nesting box today! Came from one of the 2, 1 year old EE that we bought to teach our Lemon Orps how to use the nesting box. Ironic that we got the EE and they only laid about 6 eggs before molting/adjusting to the new environment! Raised our Orps from chicks, turning 25 weeks tomorrow....still waiting...

yay! I am wondering if I should try shredded papers for my boxes. It's about the last thing to try. We have a hay box, a pine shaving box, and a dirt and grass box. They all have golf balls in them and I have been leaving the 1 daily egg we get from our BR in there for a few hours to see if anyone wants to practice sitting on a real egg, lol.

I read a thread somewhere on BYC about what people put in nesting boxes. I wanted to put something other than shavings (which I use for coop floor). I didn't want to have to go buy hay and thought shredded paper was a great way to recycle!

Does anyone know is it possible for a chicken to sing the chicken song and not lay any eggs?
This morning everybody was on the nest (4 hens) singing that song before and after....and call me crazy but my Rooster was doing it too! He chimed right on in with the ladies. I didn't realize that was the egg laying song...I thought it was their little alert to one another...LOL. Love you-tube, Love BYC!

6littlechicks and TriangleMaster, she is almost 26 weeks and the oldest of my 4, has been at the biggest and at the top since the day our RIR died as 2 week old chicks. Obviously our BO roo is bigger now, but she's still at the top. She is super friendly. i noticed today that "her" comb is getting bigger!!! I am hoping for a hen as I had 5, one died, one is a roo and another may be, leaving me with only 6-8 eggs a week for family of 5 hearty egg eaters and bakers!

Maybe her comb means she's getting ready to lay? Our other Ameraucana started laying and doesn't have a large comb.???? I love learning curves.
If shes sure friendly that a sign she's really is a she, and bigger waddle usually means they are maturing and will (hopefully) lay an egg soon. Some times different breeds have different size of combs, just like it changes how big that chicken can be, and the size of its egg. Her being the oldest is probably why she's at the top.
Hope this helps!

Ha, and yeah did they lay you and eggs?

Could Emily be Edward? She's the oldest of the girls, I thought and the other two are laying eggs. Our BO rooster has NOT been allowed to her. She fights back and he's afraid of her. Always has been. BO roo has been crowing for months but she/he never has. Is she just a late layer? She's 25 weeks 5 days old.
Emily laid her first egg today. Had binding issues, but we made out ok. Thanks for the input. I love this forum.
