-26 This Morning - All Is Well

I just started feeding my girls suet cakes ( the kind for wild birds). Really cuts down on how much feed they need while helping them keep warm. Chookschick is on smart women!

We are cold here too- was a 4F at 9:00am.

Everyone is fine with no heat, extra corn in the feed and hot water three times a day. No one seems to be to upset, even my moderns are doing well.

-10 when i went to the coop. It was 22 degrees in the coop, not heat so thats not bad!!! I gave them some scratch and left them locked up. One of my girls was trying to get out the door when i left lol! I will go open them up soon, it is up to 18 here!!!! Oh and my 2 broodies seem to be doing well!

Well, it is well off this morning's low of minus 26. Sun's out and we're up to whopping -3

Heading back out for another round of egg collection. That's the toughest part.

The trick is to have cold hard breeds, I believe. No in coop heat. No frostbite here. These breeds were all developed in cold places like Ohio (Buckeyes) New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Plymouth Rock, up-state New York (Wyandotte). I just cannot keep sissy breeds. LOL

Man, how does -26 feel? really. I'm from Louisiana and I can't even grasp the idea.
Does it all feel the same after a certain point or not?
I think down here in the summer anything above 90 deg. all feels the same.

We hit -16 last night. It was -10 when I went out to the barn this morning. It's a constant 60F in there. Our birds don't even know it's winter and they've been laying at 96% for the past three months.

I think that everything below 0 feels the same (COLD). When you go outside and if it takes your breath away if you don't breathe through your nose, then it all pretty much goes into the same category (COLD!).

Can't take the cold, myself. I'm grateful that Momma, and Daddy had sense enough to live where 25 ABOVE zero is usually about as cold as we get. And I STILL worry about my girls, and my little silkie roo... Can't imagine 50 degrees colder than our coldest weather... of course, our heat in the summer-time can be gosh-darn uncomfortable, too.... Maybe Momma and Daddy could've had a little more sense, and birthed me in northern California....
