Hello fellow chicken peeps. I have a 26 week old white leghorn named Icky that has not started laying. She seems very healthy, full of energy, and very entertaining. She eats 16% layer feed with oyster shell separate free choice. My 24 week old EE and my 24 week old barred rock have been laying for about a month. Should I be concerned about my Icky?

Hi there and welcome to BYC! :frow

I completely agree with the first poster.. noting every year I see post about Leghorn laying MUCH later than they are touted for, and I've yet to have one actually lay earlier than other flock members. Genetics is such a fantastic learning adventure if you get bit by that bug! :wee

I thought Leghorn would be the least liked, most plain, first over the fence, gone to predators sacrifice. I was still learning then.. and uhm, still learning now.. Keeping animals continues to blow up ALL stereo types while confirming other things.

Starburst, the Leghorn we had was also very entertaining and the talk of all the company, in addition to being a great consistent layer of very good size eggs once they were rolling in, and an overall fantastic flock member! :love

I don't know about Leghorn, but we have a Blue Wyandott who JUST started laying last week, she is almost 8 months old. Some of our flock (different breeds, all acquired at the same time when they were about one-week old) started laying at 4 months old! They all have their own schedule. An interesting fact is that the Blue Wyandott has the most hen like body shape than anyone else.

So this girl is 31 weeks and still not laying. They are in an enclosed run and she is my only white egg layer, I am absolutely sure she is not laying. Should I be concerned? She is active, eats well, Purina layer crumble free feed, treats occasionally include meal worms/ black fly larvae, sprouted grains, and vegetables.
