26 weeks old, still no eggs!

And one of these "first days" Blooo, you are goin' show up and the egg will still be warm!

Or, the hen will be on the nest and bite you when you try to feel under her to find if there's an egg. You can't get any closer to the source. Now, DH can make scrambled eggs and you can bring all the sharp knives out from wherever you’ve been hiding them.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing the happy smile!

ps Carla, the squatting is instinctual and comes with maturity. Eggs come with maturity, too.

We had one RIR that didn't lay until 28 weeks. She was going to go into the freezer next week if she didn't start producing.

And then my EEs FINALLY started laying last week. (29 weeks)... and then they lay BROWN eggs... not blue or green as I was hoping.

I don't know if this is true ,but one of my neighbors told me that if the chickens have alot of animal protein in their diet, they will lay better. My brown leghorns didn't start laying until they were 7 months old.All of my chickens except for three are still laying.I help my chickens find insects in the yard to eat. When I kept them in a pen, they layed less eggs. When they became free range, and found plenty of bugs and other things to eat, they layed more egg.

Congratulations! Nice pics. It's so exciting to go out and find eggs in the nest boxes. I never get tired of it.

Congrats blooo - My girls are 26 weeks and still nothing. We've been anxiously checking the coop/nestbox for 8 weeks. And if I had an egg for every person who asked me if my chickens are laying yet (right down to the grocery store cashiers!), well then, I wouldn't need those spoiled girls! Sigh. I keep telling myself that the wait will make it all the more precious when that first egg comes. I told the girls I was going to change their coop sign to "Lay or Roast." They're not scared.
