27 week old Buff Orp not laying yet

Here's my "when I was a kid moment" chickens weren't expected to start laying until 6 months up to a year, now with rations and sex links and improved breeding these chickens laying at four months seems crazy to us old folks. I'm not in any hurry to see mine lay, so I slow them down a bit, something you can't seem to do with these newer sex links, I still prefer the slower big girls, they have staying power.

She is closing to laying. When her comb and wattle turn red and vent becomes wide, she will start laying...

Finally our Buffy laid her first egg (from left: store bought large egg, Buffy's first egg, and 2 eggs from our EE's).

I have a mixed crew of 13 ladies (6 different breeds:2 Welsummer, 2 Dominiques, 2 Buff Orps, 2 SG Dorking, 2 Jersey Giants, 3 Langshan) all 26 weeks old. Even the girls who are the same breed do not start laying at the same time. They just started laying a few weeks ago. The first one to lay was one of the Dominiques followed by one of the Welsummers. Both are smaller breeds. Currently laying are both Dominiques, both Welsummers, one of the Jersey Giants and one of the Buff Orps. The other Jersey Giant looks like she is getting close. The other Buff Orp, the Silver Grey Dorkings and the Langshans don't even look close. I have been getting 3-4 eggs a day. Yesterday I got 6. I guess they are like our kids - they all develop at their own pace. The eggs are slowing getting better, though I don't think the Dominiques are ever going to lay a large egg.
