Hello everyone! I have been busy non stop so I haven't been able to post so I'm trying to catch up
Natchlaly, I read your post about your disaster and I felt so bad
but I see that most of your eggs are still good! I'm so happy for you
. Lightfoote, very impressive incubator! So I posted a few days ago about my candling being inconclusive so I did it again today.... I saw movement in 3 out of my eight!
and I definitely saw veining in a couple of others! so I know that my Gretta will have a few babies
Now another problem popped up though, my bantam Cochin wants to go broody now, I only have 2 nest boxes
. I think I might have to break my Cochin! Got the next couple of days off so I hope to catch up with everyone!

Thanks for your kind words Sorin. I am so happy for you and Gretta
. Last time I had 2 broody hens, I also have only 2 nesting boxes, I made a nest for the second hen in a plastic storage box. She was more than happy to sit on her eggs in there
. She hatched all 8 of the eggs that I had put in there for her so we both got our own way, I got 2 lots of chicks and she got to sit

I have 18 Araucana eggs in my bator which are laying on their side and on the same hardware cloth as you. This is my 3rd hatch using this bator and i have never had any problems with the chick struggling or falling through. as far as candling goes just do them as you turn them, they are only out of the bator for a few seconds and you got to think of it this way, Momma chicken gets of her eggs once each day to eat n drink so you are not gonna do them any harm
For those of you wondering how I can stand not candling my BCM eggs, I cheated and set 6 of the white Leghorn eggs with them --- easiest eggs to candle in the world! hahaha I peeked at one when I turned them last night and it's growing nicely! I just assume that the others are growing as well.
Thinking everyone on this thread must have left the country
have not heqard from some of you in ages. Well have now reached day 14 so will be candling as soon as it gets dark enough and will let you all know what i find
Temp has started to rise slightly today so having to tweak the bator. Looking at this as a good sign that the chicks are developing well and have started to produce some heat of their own
Hope everyone else is progressing well and hatches their fuzz butts next week
looking forward to seeing some, no all of your wonderful pics
Going well so far... Looks like 8/12 are doing ok, this is day 14. My Welp Hatchery chicks came today that I ordered the beginning of last month. Got 10 BO's, 10 black australorps and 5 white leghorn.... 2 extras which were 1 black australorp and 1 white leghorn. So at this point I have 25 "teenagers" and 27 that are 2 days old. The 8 that will hopefully hatch next week.
Is anyone planning another hatch after this one? Because.... I am also getting some Lav orp and BBSO eggs to set the following week after hatch. Hatch a long June 3rd anyone???
