This was my first time, and I turned them twice a day. I was told to not let them be on the x side every night, but x one night and o the next. Worked fine with mine. I also kept mine at 99.5 temp. Is what the lady whose incubator I borrowed told me to do. I just put the eggs in on their sides. But I have no idea the "correct" placement. Mine worked for me

Good luck!

The air cell is the fat end. This end is supposed to always be elevated at least above the relative height of the smaller, more pointed end...for example as the egg would be laying on its side.

An "X" on one side and an "O" on the other should be 180 degrees (half circle) apart from one another. Eggs can be rotated 3X per day - for example, get up in the morning at 6 or 7 am, turn from the overnight resting side - we'll just say "X" - to an "O", then from "O" back to "X" at around 2pm, then back to "O" for the next overnight at around 10pm. The eggs can be laid at rest in the bottom half of an egg carton at an angle that keeps the air cell end elevated...imagine the angle of a forward or backward slash for example
/ or \\

It doesn't have to be at that exact angle...even just a shallow approximation should be fine if the air cell is higher. Once your eggs are at day 18, no more turning, humidity higher, watch and wait.
