Sorry if I missed it. But did you buy these chicks, or hatch them from broilers you bought and didn’t process?
I’ve currently got some rainbow rangers, and I’m hoping I can at least keep a few pullets and breed them to a large heritage rooster to raise my own. I free range, and pasture raise. So my growth rate is much slower. But still incredibly fast compared to the heritage birds.

Hatched here, purposed purchase for a sustainable meat bird and so far very happy with the results but the adult flock is still only 8 months old.. So the question lies in will we be able to sustain the type for years to come ? I have 45+ years of chicken keeping and feel good about it but only time will tell.. The birds have a 20x 80 run and may see occasional free range depending on bugs..

Average weight today was 1 lb 14 ozs but in they're defense they are running out of food on the weekdays.. I'll have to get me another feeder going so that doesn't happen.. 2 yards 1 layer 1 broiler quite a difference..

This batch was hatched here from a white bird I suspect is very close to the rangers.

Are you continuing the project?

Yes. The birds are wonderful. Butchered that batch in the spring, hatched a batch for replacements which should be laying anytime now. Lost an original hen from the heat and she weighed in @9lbs 3ozs. Eggs a plenty and Jumbo at that.
