Hatched here, purposed purchase for a sustainable meat bird and so far very happy with the results but the adult flock is still only 8 months old.. So the question lies in will we be able to sustain the type for years to come ? I have 45+ years of chicken keeping and feel good about it but only time will tell.. The birds have a 20x 80 run and may see occasional free range depending on bugs..Sorry if I missed it. But did you buy these chicks, or hatch them from broilers you bought and didn’t process?
I’ve currently got some rainbow rangers, and I’m hoping I can at least keep a few pullets and breed them to a large heritage rooster to raise my own. I free range, and pasture raise. So my growth rate is much slower. But still incredibly fast compared to the heritage birds.
