2nd morning help

I have two chicks not doing so good.
One is alert but unable to sit or stand on her own. She is unable to lift her neck and seems to favoring one if her leg.
The other is breathing, has taken a few sips sugar water but else is motionless.

any suggestions? My friend suggested a vet. We are looking into it now.

Welcome to BYC. How old are the chicks? Are they newly hatched by you at home? Pictures of the one with the leg issue may be helpful. If you can get vitamins for chicks, and get them drinking, that would be a good first step.

We purchased them from ACE TrueValue in Rhode Island. They stated they were newly hatched. Two two struggling chicks did take some sips of sugar water. The Foghorn is trying to pick herself up but unable to.

Get vitamins with electrolytes, such as SaveAChick or Poultry Cell/NutriDrench. Do you have them under a heat source? Dip their beaks often into water, and sprinkle chick crumbles around their feet and tap it to get them eating. Add a little water to some to try and get them eating.

Yes, heat lamp and they are in our mud room which is cooler than the rest of the house but not cold. When I got up this morning it was really warm in the room and the two struggling chicks were on the bottom of the pile

Vet visit sounds best. If however, you choose to "self-medicate" try ratio of 1Tbs. natural yeast to 1 cup dry feed to boost strength to the legs etc with niacin for both of them;- it worked for my chicks and ducklings. Praying for the best outcome.

Sorry to hear you lost one.

You mention the 2 that were struggling were on the bottom of the pile.
How much room is in your brooder? Can you show a photo of the whole thing? Was the pile under the lamp or on the opposite side/away from heat?
